As the book continues on, we continue to learn more and more about the character's in the story. After an incident at her job, Tova is forced to take medical leave and the aquarium has to hire someone in her place which happens to be Cameron . Cameron was brought to Sowell Bay looking for his father but ended up finding a job at the aquarium who happens to also meet Ethan and ends up staying with him while in town.

Samantha Clamp It is through these seemingly unrelated events that Tova and Cameron meet and we discover through Marcellus' insightful thoughts that the widow and struggling 30 year old might be related. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt explores themes such as healing and unexpected family which Van Pelt demonstrates through Tova's healing journey throughout the entire novel and through her and Cameron's relationship.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt follows the relationship between a widowed woman named Tova Sullivan and the octopus at her aquarium job named Marcellus. Van Pelt chooses to write through a third person omniscient point of view so we have seen the perspectives of Tova, Marcellus, Ethan who owns the local grocery store and Cameron a struggling 26 year old.

Samantha Clamp In the story we follow the character\'s daily lives and as the book continues we learn that Tova had a son named Erik who disappeared and was presumed dead when he was only 18. The plot progresses and we begin to learn that Marcellus might know more than anyone else about Erik\'s disappearance. This book would be perfect for anyone who enjoyed Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus or The House in The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. 1mo

Less fun to read than other animal books I‘ve read before but nonetheless a fascinating read!

A follow up to a documentary series and her best selling Soul of the Octopus. Since octopuses are getting more popular, scientists are studying them more. The book highlights the newest things we have discovered about octopuses. New species, how they change colors, their intelligence, social behaviors etc.

TheBookHippie I loved this one! 2mo

It‘s been a while, Litsy! A delayed flight means passing the time with this delightful book. Give me a book with loveable characters and a good story and I can sit in an airport without cursing the airport gods. So far, I am hooked. Perhaps one of my top three of the year!?

Reading about my favorite marine animal, the octopus, in “Secrets of the Octopus“ by Sy Montgomery! I love Sy and have read several of her books, with more on my TBR list! This book also introduced me to @octonation , who I am now happily following on Instagram. 💗🐙

Jumping back to a nature book. Have to read this because just love these creatures. Written as a companion to the National Geographic series. Also her other book The Soul of an Octopus was amazing. Go give this a read.
