A Book of Pagan Prayer | Ceisiwr Serith
post image
Mehso-so

I‘ve been trying to process this one for ages now. The first part is a good conversation starter. The second half is such a patchwork of pre-fab prayers it‘s hard to take them as genuine. Maybe if this had been done as a collaboration between the author and other people on the paths for these prayers it might seem more genuine and therefore be more helpful. By the end, my eyes were sort of crossed and I was just happy it was over.

GingerAntics I still feel “I‘ll pray for you” as a passive aggressive move or a way to absolve oneself of doing nothing at best and blaming others for things out of their control at worst has ruined open, genuine prayer for everyone. 6mo

Winter gives us the book on spirit-work that she wish she had when first starting out herself. The wide-ranging essays cover topics as varied as the use of entheogens, the nature and importance of sacrifice, the true meaning of Hekate‘s Deipnon, the difference between trance and visualization, and the work of modern oracles. Though not a spirit-worker myself, I found much food for thought in Winter‘s essays. #paganism #polytheism #mythology

“Although some liberal watchdogs have tried to define Thor‘s hammer as a hate symbol, most of those who wear it are as positive in their outlook as those witches who wear the pentagram”…no one is wary of racist iconography because it‘s “negative”. No one is like “those Nazis are such Debby Downers”. Having your religious iconography co-opted by assholes happens, ask the Buddhists, but don‘t downplay it.

A lot was packed into less than 200 pages. Daimler didn‘t go into great depth on anything, but get a good look at the general nature of Irish Reconstructionist Polytheism. This is a great, well written, scholarly, concise starting point. In fact, I wish I had started with this book.

GingerAntics Even though I didn‘t, this book is still valuable because it emphasises that each person‘s path or “version” will be slightly different, so it removes some of the pressure to “do it right.” 4y

Started this book on the 30th and totally forgot to post about it. Whoops! Other than the fact I still take issue with the word “pagan” and I‘m down with everything but the “gods and goddesses of Ireland are real” thing...let‘s just say I‘m hoping this makes something click for me.

This is obviously a book for a very specific niche—but it‘s a great book for that niche. It‘s short and easy to read, but packed with practical ideas and thoughts. Yes, practical ideas for spirituality! I‘m grateful to the author for making it available for free on Kindle.

A breakdown on why prayer can be useful in one‘s practice, as well as several example prayers on different subjects that can be used as a jumping-off point for developing one‘s own. I will be honest that I preferred the first part of the book. The example prayers themselves really did nothing for me.
