I absolutely am in love with Splashmaster, I know.. I know, he's the villain for this one but he's also so freaking adorbs but then again there's also the Nightmare Knight, who got me intrigued due to his one action so I came away liking the villains in this book a lot more than any of the other characters. Didn't like the new character but we'll see ..

Personally I want to see more of the Nightmare Knight 😂

Was able to stop in Wilmington (southern Vermont) yesterday to get a stamp on my Vermont Independent Bookstore Passport. What a sweet little town with a fabulous bookstore! Excited about these books. Miller, a Vermont author, wrote the tagged book which was sooo good and I encourage folks to check it out. Can‘t wait to check his newest one out. Hmmmm…can‘t remember how to tag. #TheMemoirsofStockholmSven

BarbaraBB Great haul! I loved the tagged book! 3w
Suet624 @BarbaraBB thanks! And yes, I really like this author. 3w
BooksandCoffee4Me Spent a wonderful two weeks at the Putney Inn in Putney, Vermont about ten years ago. Drove upstate to Lake Champlaigne (sp?). I would love to see Vermont in the fall! 3w
Suet624 @BooksandCoffee4Me Hi Laurie, I live in northern Vermont and rarely get to the southern part of the state (which is where Wilmington is) so it's been a delight to do this Passport program and see towns I don't normally go to. For instance, I've never been to Putney even though I've lived here for almost 50 years. I lived right on Lake Champlain for about 20 years - a spectacular lake. Come to Vermont! Get in touch if you do! 3w

I absolutely enjoyed this!
I'm so much older than the inspired ages for this but it was a fun read especially as this book veers away from the usual hero arc and makes light of other fantasy tropes in a way that lets a younger sister take the lead and be a hero as her older brother just wants to go to magic school.
And with that cliffhanger, I need to know what happens to our brother and sister team now!

THIS one I liked more. The banter between Little Sh*t Asteroth and Always Fighting Calladia was tasty. Maybe I'm just a sucker for...well, this wasn't exactly enemies to lovers, but it was close! As close as you can probably get in contemporary fiction. The ending was...interesting, but I can appreciate that these books, while romances, try to tackle Big Issues(TM) as well as personal ones.

Richly imagined and atmospheric, mysterious and adventurous. There's magic and darkness. Incredible story!

3/5
The main character walks around town meeting different people, through these encounters we learn about his life, his past, the town, and its inhabitants.
Some parts I like more than others, the more fantastic parts are also quite philosophical at times. I wonder how a young audience responds to this book, or if they really manage to connect with it.
It reads well as an adult, but I'm not quite satisfied with the ending.

I love feminist retellings of old stories. Too often they‘re told only through a male lens and the egregious wrongs against women become simply part of the story. I loved that Young Hag and the Witches‘ Quest pointed out the wrongs and held the men committing them accountable! It‘s also a fun take on the tales of King Arthur and Camelot! 🗡️

This was a light hearted magical rom-com with all the best bits — enemies to lovers, forced proximity, humour and silliness and spice. And yet…somehow also managed to be a very insightful look at abusive relationships, self-awareness and working to be a better person, and racial politics. This book was a bit of a ride, but I enjoyed every second of it.
