Great queer YA retelling of Northanger Abbey! I loved Catherine‘s obsession with gothic novels updated to Cade‘s obsession with horror movies. The gay fears and love story felt very real, especially for teenagers in rural Texas.

Unfortunately, when I showed this to my gay classic-lit-and-horse-loving friend, he informed me that this artist is just as bad as all the others at drawing horses 😂

Completely lovely YA adaptation of Northanger Abbey with perfect gothic parallels and a sweetly real young love story for our two leading lads. I don't always love a graphic novel but this one captured me, and while it deals with more serious themes than the original (homophobia, racism, poverty, illness), it still feels like an A+ successor to Austen's novel. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to this one. #PemberLittens #JaneAustenThenAndNow

This was just ok for me. The ending was satisfying, but it took a long time to get there. The amount of fatphobia was very annoying. The characterizations in general felt a bit shallow. It passed the time, though (most of it I listened to as an audiobook at work but read the last third at the airport/during my flight - last third was the strongest part).

Early morning flight. A little over an hour before boarding for me to read and have my iced dirty chai.

Northanger May is behind us and Northanger Adaptation June is ahead! I'm going for a re-watch of the 2007 film (they get it so right!), a handful of YA versions (the perfect genre for this one, can't deny it) and a book centered on the flowers and plants in Austen's work. Perfect timing as I get my own garden in gear, and who knows - maybe it'll help me learn to love a hyacinth??

Who else has some adaptations to explore this month?

Bookwormjillk I have Ghosted out from the library 3mo
Andrea313 @Bookwormjillk I'm looking forward to that one! 3mo

peanutnine I've read Northranger before (it was great!) but I might check out Ghosted. There don't seem to be a ton of adaptations of this one 3mo

#CoverStories #Clouds McGuanes protagonists are funny ,seems that they seem smart enough to avoid bad decisions, walk into them anyway. I read them years ago, not sure if I‘d like them as much now.

CatMS Years ago I has such a huge crush on McGuane I read everything of his I could get my hands on. 6mo
Leftcoastzen @CatMS I here that ! Maybe I should have put his photo in there instead of the front cover! 😄 6mo
