I still give this book 4 stars even though I agree that the execution wasn't always great. It came off a bit choppy and lacked finesse at times. The story line was still solid and an interesting perspective. I'm definitely recommending this book with reservations.

Tempests and Slaughter: The Numair Chronicles, Book One | Tamora Pierce

Numair is my all time favorite character from the Tortall universe so I was bound to enjoy this book about his origin story. This book is definitely a slow-burn fantasy; not much happens plot wise but I can tell that this book is really meant to set up events for book 2. I've always loved how Pierce describes magic and I'm eagerly awaiting book 2.

Also, Pierce should be giving SJM cover quotes not the other way around. #salty 😑
