I absolutely loved reading these books! The mystery and drama constantly kept me wanting to read more and I ended up reading 4! 😂

Reading them took me right back to middle school. I‘ll be definitely reading more from this series.

I‘m quite enjoying going back and reading the old Nancy Drew Mysteries. This week I read 5, 6, and 7 from my stack. It is striking however, how much racism and sexism are present in these otherwise charming wholesome novels just because these first few books were written in the 30s. So far that‘s not ruining the experience for me, but we‘ll see how I feel as I keep reading.

I'm loving this Twitter thread about how #nancydrew caused readers to be overprepared for silly things. This is true for me, not just due to the books, but also to the awesome video games. It is true for me, e.g. sometimes in new places I try to figure out where I would go if there was a tornado or something. Someone else pointed out Nancy had a TON of concussions/car crashes 😂

I‘m not sure what to do with it now that it‘s all put together, but I couldn‘t resist buying this puzzle. I loved Nancy Drew growing up. While I acknowledge the problems with the books, it was nice to see a woman who was admired for being intelligent and capable.

So I am supposed to dress up as Nancy Drew for Halloween but Amazon screwed me over and my magnifying glass won‘t be here until tomorrow. So Halloween is a bust except I now have to go to work in a costume that now makes no sense and deal with a bunch of hopped up on sugar kids. 😭😭😭 I want to go back to bed.

Tamra @Jess_Read_This in my wheelhouse, not necessarily for everyone! 😁 Suskind is not prolific and two are creepy - perfect for Halloween. Perfume & The Pigeon. One short story has a scene with a “booger” on the piano keys at a lesson that my husband and I laughed at with tears rolling & gut aching. 7y

robinb ❤️ Nancy Drew! A current favorite series is the Bess Crawford series (Charles Todd). Also love the Sebastian St. Cyr series (C. S. Harris). Both are historical mystery sets. 7y
