Mehso-so

This book is a bit of a mess. I have no idea why I bought it in the first place but that was in 2008 so a few years ago 😀

It is about grief and the First World War and quantum physica and animal sex and traveling in Latin America. Well, it fits the #SomePlaceCold prompt for #FictionalTraveler2025!

LeahBergen 😆😆 I have books on my shelf like that, too! 2w
sarahbarnes I also have books like that I bought years ago and never read, and then I don‘t enjoy them much when I finally do. 😆 2w
julieclair I must admit I‘m intrigued as to how all those topics fit into one book… 🤔 2w
Suet624 @sarahbarnes yes, exactly. 1w

#WeeklyForecast 03/25

I am reading the unputdownable The Wedding People. Super curious to find out where the story goes. Next will be the oldest book on my tbr (the tagged one) for #FictionalTraveler. Maybe there‘s time for another Banana Yoshimoto as well 🤞🏽

Melismatic The Wedding People was just chosen for my next in person book club. Glad to hear you‘re enjoying it! 3w
BarbaraBB @Melismatic It seems like everyone is reading it at the moment! Enjoy! 3w

Thanks to Litsy encouragement, I surpassed my goal of reading 12 books. Started the tagged book on Monday ~ the writing is easy to read while the content is heartbreaking. 🩶

Halfwayr through with this one and so far it‘s very intriguing- the eerie wasteland makes me think of Vandermeer‘s Annhilation/ Southern Reach novels which I also enjoyed lots!

Pickpick

This book lingered on my shelf following controversy from the first book about who has the right to tell Cilka‘s story. I‘m glad I read it and felt the author well-defended in both preface and afterward her effort to write and her wish to honor the memory of the real life Cilka. But female rape survivors of Nazi war camps were subjected to chargers of sleeping with the enemy an sentenced gulogs in Siberia. That‘s so wrong.

Dec #DoubleSpin

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 2mo
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s very hard to believe that they were prosecuted! No words.. 2mo
marleed @CoverToCoverGirl every time I get to thinking about WWII HF can‘t teach me anything I haven‘t already read, I stand corrected. I had no idea camp survivors were charged with crimes for the ways in which they survived (as if submitting to multiple rapes to survive is a crime) and sent to prison camps in Siberia for an obscene amount of years. Heartbreaking. 2mo

marleed @TheAromaofBooks one more book (Huck Finn) all I‘ll close out 2024 having read all 24 bookspin and DoubleSpin books. Thank you so much for hosting this challenge. It truly inspires me to shop my own shelves for previously published books at least a couple times a month. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks That is really fantastic progress!!! It sounds like the categories vs. specific books has really worked for you this year!! 2mo
CoverToCoverGirl Agreed! I stand corrected with you. Imagine being so cruelly punished just for surviving the unimaginable. 😢 2mo
