Third in his Coughlin trilogy and a sequel to Live By Night. The temptation in mafia fiction, of course, is glorification of "the life", but here Lehane doesn't shy away from the sordidness of the whole business, which, stripped of its superficial glamour, is shown to leave in its wake a trail of helpless addicts, exploited women and fatherless children. This brings the trilogy to a triumphant conclusion.
I finished this last weekend but I'm a bit behind. This has been a great trilogy (book 1 was the best) + here Joe coughlin is retired from running the tampa mafia but gets drawn back in when he learns of a plot to kill him. The series has covered a fascinating period in American history from the communism of the 20s thru prohibition to the mafia controlled cities. History with great storytelling. Reading slowed as I try to catch up with ozark.
My #ReadWithMrBook April #LibrarianRec book is this acclaimed drama! A colleague found me reading from the dramas section and rec‘d this one. A 1929 Cuban-American cigar-rolling factory acquires a new lector (work-floor reader) who begins reading “Anna Karenina”. The characters each have issues & aspirations. The plot paces well while delving into deeper reflections of culture, persona, literature, progress. 4.5 ⭐️‘s #PairWith: Havana Club Rum 🥃
This story made me remember why I had wanted to become a zookeeper in college but also why I decided against it. All of the keepers have such compassion towards their animals, but the low pay and politics get in the way. Also it's heartbreaking what happens to the animals, especially when it's due to an terrible guest provoking the animals!
Thanks for the tag @Kayla.Adriena 1. No zoo where I live but the Memphis Zoo is about hour away 😊
2. Yes, we go about once a year
3. Pandas, monkeys, and elephants
4. Rode a camel and petted a sting ray, giraffe, dolphin, and monkey
5. Tagging anyone that has not played yet since I‘m a day late
1) Sadly no. I live in a pretty rural area.
2) No zoo but I‘ve been to several ones nearby. I just went to the Nashville zoo on Monday where I found this dashing monkey in a display in the women‘s bathroom.
3) Red pandas!
4) The Nashville zoo has some kangaroos you can pet.

I couldn‘t find any books or pictures about pirates so I think this in Tampa, which is as good as I‘ll get. Happy Gasparilla, mateys! (Never been myself, just on my bucket list now!)
About 1/3 in, this book is entertaining. Not for the easily offended or serious readers... 😂 #tampa #funread #buttonholeorvagina?
