#3Books #thatmademeuncomfortable (or in this case, one big book)

I can only recall one book that made me uncomfortable. I love IT and have re-read it over the years but there is one part that I just can‘t wrap my head around! 🤯

KathyWheeler That part makes me uncomfortable too — I‘m pretty sure we‘re thinking of the same part. 4y
MidnightBookGirl So I first read IT when I was in 6th grade, and then several times as a teenager... I don't think that scene bothered me until I became an adult, but yeah, now I kind of just skip over it on rereads. 4y

Traci1 Yep, this was one of my 3 for the same reason. I love King, but it just seems such an odd, and unnecessary, scene. 4y

#3books #thatmademeuncomfortable

Once again I enjoyed these books but each had an under lying current that left me uncomfortable and unsettled.

(1) The Diver's Clothes Lie Empty, a 2nd person narrator which felt strange at some points
(2) The Piano Teacher, weird and violent sexual acts
(3) Extreme makeover, a scene with a person stuck in a pig's body, otherwise a great read

It isn‘t always easy to find pieces of yourself in someone‘s else story but it can be enlightening and can help you put the pieces together to help make sense of yourself.

▪️I loved IT, but there were parts....ick
▪️Sold was incredible and sad and appalling.
▪️I read PofT when I was 17 at the recommendation of my favorite teacher. I actually put it down and vowed to never finish it because it made me so uncomfortable, but she talked me into finishing. I can't say I loved it, but I am glad I saw it through to the end.

Andrea4 Really want to read PoT but knowing the movie also makes me quite...wary? 4y
Traci1 @Andrea4 I am really uncomfortable reading about /watching particular...scenarios. I've seen the movie, and it didn't bother me really. But the book was descriptive. It's been more than 2 decades, so I may feel differently about it if I read it now. BUT I always feel like if its something thats stuck with me for 20+ years, it was probably pretty rough. 4y

Andrea4 @Traci1 oof yea I know what you mean. Descriptive is killer. Maybe I'd just skim those parts... 4y

I won‘t say why here because it‘s best you dive into these books without prior knowledge. But you may want to check out reviews for trigger warnings.

merelybookish The Nest...yes. 😬 4y

Killing one‘s father and marrying your mom; killing your child so slavery can‘t destroy her; alcoholic, distant parents who send you to Indian school - unh the deep sadness and tragedy
