'Thriller of the year' Daily Mail When aspiring writer Guinevere Beck strides into the bookstore where Joe works he is instantly smitten. Beck is everything Joe has ever wanted: tough, razor-smart and sexier than his wildest dreams. He'd kill to have her. Soon Beck can't resist her feelings for a guy who seems custom made for her. When a string of macabre incidents tears her world apart there is only one person she can turn to. But there's more to Joe than Beck realises and much more to Beck than her perfect facade. The obsessive relationship quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences... ElizaMarie Ha! No you shouldn't! But the heart wants what it wants. I mean some parts of him are super intense but then it goes to crazy town real quick!

I am reading/listening to the sequel right now. But again. I am sucked back into Joe. He has that intensity that is magnetic (but way too problematic)
2w
OriginalCyn620 @ElizaMarie are you liking Hidden Bodies? I haven‘t read it yet...need to bump it up the TBR! (edited) 2w
ElizaMarie I am. I mean being inside Joe's mind is like one of those slow motion train wrecks, difficult to look away... (Thats the saying right?) But, yes. I am really enjoying it!

Also have you seen the Netflix show?

This book leaves you on the edge of your seat. The language wisps you away into a world of mystery, love, murder. A story about the dark side of romance.

Gratuitous sex and violence. Just not a fan of these types of books. I'm glad it is done. #nwc I might have to watch the series on mute. It made me read outside of my comfort zone, but I would blush and hope no one was reading over my shoulder. I need to take a shower. 😳😖😜🙅 On a positive note, the narrator loved literature so many classic works were referred by him.

AkashaVampie I'm sorry I am just seeing this now sweetie. I really need to check the hashtags more often. I am still reading mine so i have that to look forward to!! haha Glad you could take a dive and read out of your comfort zone. I am doing the same. 1mo

Finished this last night, I had to read it quick as I wanted to find out the full extent of Joe‘s creepiness and it was EXTREME!!!! The whole book was just unsettling, as it was supposed to be. I think there‘s a sequel, not sure I would read it. Maybe in time. Need to get some space from Joe first!

I don‘t want to pan this because it‘s a decent read but I‘m a little tired of dead girls.

Soscha The gendered insults in the last bit were the deal breaker for me. I get it, writer is a woman and I‘m not trying to censor anyone‘s stories. Just, misogyny; it kills. Women are living through too much triggering BS the last few years and I‘m just not in the headspace for this stuff and may never be again. 1mo

This is one of the best books I‘ve read this year. I originally watched “You” on Netflix and discovered it was based on a book. In the beginning, it‘s almost word for word identical but as you get further into it, it gets darker and more intense than the show was. I cannot wait to grab Hidden Bodies and continue the story of Joe.

TheBookAddict I read it way before the show and it was truly a hypnotizing story. You want to feel repulsed by Joe and not want to be in his head, but you are in his head and you kind of like Joe. It‘s terrible and genius the way this book was written. Enthralling. I haven‘t read Hidden bodies yet, but I plan to read You again before I get to it. 🙂👍🏽 1mo

I finally got around to reading this and I really enjoyed it. It is told from the perspective of the stalker and I thought it was well done. Joe is a completely twisted, obsessive sociopath, but even though you are aware of this, you can‘t help but feel sympathy for him at times. Looking forward to finally watching the Netflix series!

Admittedly I watched the #Netflix show first, but that's nothing compared to the book. It's so twisted and eerie, very mature, however I did find that it dragged on at some parts. I enjoyed this book, but I dont think I will re-read it, but like all my other book babies, it goes on the bookshelf!

Disclaimer: I watched the Netflix show first!
Having said that, i feel like it added an extra level of creepiness to Joe and really made the book great for me. There was a lot of sexual content so be aware if sensitive. For the most part the show followed along with the book with some minor changes besides the ending being different. Definitely recommend if you love obsessed, creepy love stories.

EyesOnly34 I‘ve meant to read it. Is it good? 2mo
starr.reads The audiobook is amazing. The guy reading makes it even more creepy! 2mo
thewaterproofcomet I also watched the Netlfix show first and then read the book. Although I liked the book, somehow I found the series better. Which is weird for me because I usually tend to prefer books over movie adaptations 🤔🤷‍♀️. 2mo

This was a disturbing story of a man, Joe, who stalks his potential partners. Given that the subject matter was dark, Joe actually examines his life with humour and a fair bit of honest reflection so in the end he‘s much more likable than the people he hopes to have relationships with. Some aspects of the story were a bit unbelievable, but overall this was a good, fast read ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/4

I thought i would love this book but i only found it okay. Yes, the premise is a little scary seeing how much of our lives are accesible on social media and the plot was good. But it was a little too long for a book that is basically a trashy thriller and i was hoping for a twist where Beck turned out to be the crazier one. The writing was mediocre and Joe's character got a little boring after awhile. I should've stopped at the tv show.

I finished YOU on a long-ass #audiowalk along the Greenway, and I regret to say I‘m underwhelmed. Kepnes effectively embeds the reader in serial killer Joe‘s perception. She does a fine job of highlighting how untrustworthy a narrator he is. And yet, the spark wasn‘t there for me. Without that little frisson, that reason to CARE, I couldn‘t delight in sifting through Joe‘s biased narrative in search of the truth. It‘s clever, but didn‘t move me.

Leftcoastzen I listened to the audio and felt like I was being yelled at. 2mo

There were way too many yellow leaves on my afternoon #audiowalk. These “cooler temperatures” Litsy keeps gushing about are NOT my jam.

Honestly, I‘m not sure if this book is, either, though it‘s definitely intriguing. Joe‘s obviously a psychopath and I think Beck might be too, but it‘s hard to gauge the secondary characters because I trust nothing Joe says. I‘m INTERESTED in it all, but I dunno if I LIKE it.
