Pickpick

Its unimaginable to think about reading this tiny but mighty epistolary novel when it first published in 1938. What starts as a charming correspondence turns quickly chilling. Published first in ‘Story‘ magazine then Readers digest, then as a book that sold 50K copies, a LOT back then! But then almost disappeared. At B&N, we picked this as our ‘Rediscovered Classic‘ recently and its truly an excellent choice. Foreword and Afterword are must-reads.

BarbaraBB I love that B&N does that! 2y

Total smut 🤣🤣 and not my typical read, but I needed some mindless entertainment!

Found this on Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, which I appreciate for finding escapist reads like this that aren‘t misogynistic, sexist, or problematic in other ways.

Set almost entirely at The Shard hotel in London, so it also fills the #booked2022 #setinhotel prompt! Also, #pop22 #twoPOVs

Leftcoastzen Love this post!😂 2y
alisiakae @Leftcoastzen I hated trashy romance books for years, mostly due to the aforementioned misogynistic Alpha ahole male characters. I‘m slowly coming back around to the genre again for escapist reading. 😄 2y
Cinfhen Nice 👍🏽 who doesn‘t love some smut every now and then?? 2y
CarolynM I'm with you about the awful male characters in a lot of romance books, and I find the women can be frustratingly sappy too. But I do enjoy a bit of smut in my reading life😆 I recommend Sarina Bowen's books for pleasing (to me at least) male - female power balance. 2y

Turtle Diary | Russell Hoban

Pickpick

Two lonely middle-aged Londoners, Neaera and William, become connected by their mutual desire to free the turtles from London Zoo. In each chapter one of them takes the reader along in their days and thoughts. It all comes back to the turtles, to human connections and to finding a place in the world for yourself. The book is funny and poignant, and I could keep on quoting from it. A wonderful read.
