#TLT #ThreeListThursday In no particular order!
1. The World According to Garp- John Irving
2. The Catcher In The Rye - J.D. Salinger polarizing, yet I love it.
3.The Go Between - L.P. Hartley a bunch of us read it in the #NYRBBookclub a treasure , more people should discover it.
Everybody play!

AmyG Garp 🙌🏻 2w
lil1inblue I'll always have appreciation for The Catcher In the Rye. My favorite teacher in high school assigned it, and it really tickled my brain at the time. It was independent study, so we worked in small groups for discussion and it really made it interesting. Then I revisited in college with a favorite professor, so I just have good memories of reading and discussing it. 2w
Leftcoastzen @AmyG can‘t get over it. Also, came upon it when my reading life was sort of tapering off,it pulled me back in. 2w

Leftcoastzen @lil1inblue I was kind of surprised I wasn‘t assigned it in school. For good or ill love Salinger , especially all things Glass family. 2w
dabbe I'm making a list, checking it twice, and I'll make it available to all whether naughty or nice! Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚

Catcher was a favorite of mine to teach. Loved The Go-Between; it reminded me of Atonement in a way. And I can't believe I've never read Garp. 😱

Leftcoastzen @dabbe well , I get it though, when a book is really popular for a time I sometimes say I‘ll get to it , then I don‘t 😁 2w

“Ocean. When I think that word, I want to be immersed in it and at the same time contain it all. Great green deeps of ocean. A medium of motion and being. And of course the sharks. Walking on the ground is not comparable to that underwater flying, green water touching every part.“

vivastory This is one of the books I read with #NYRBBookClub It was one of my favorites. It didn't go in directions that I thought it would. In a good way. 2mo

4⭐️ I reread this with my IRL bookclub and I loved it the same. My favorite character is Mrs. Cullen 😍 I can see myself in her 🤭 but not with a hawk. A raven is more likely 🐦‍⬛

Leftcoastzen Great read 4mo
batsy Love this book! 4mo
sisilia I read this 3 years ago with #nyrbbookclub … Glad to reread it this year. It‘s much better than his other book Apartment in Athen @Leftcoastzen @batsy 4mo

Twainy My input would be. Well, it‘s a book. With pages. And words. Next. 8mo
TrishB 😂😂 somewhere between 1&2! With a few eye rolls. 8mo
BiblioLitten 3!! Go for 3! 😄 8mo

batsy 3...but the heart says 2 😂 8mo
Amor4Libros Agree with @batsy 🤣🤣 8mo
Bette Hmmm, toss up, but 2 sure would be fun to watch. 😆 8mo
rabbitprincess Definitely the baked goods option 😄 8mo
Bookwormjillk 3 with a few diplomatic points thrown in because someone might feel the same but is afraid to say it 8mo
dabbe Totally with @batsy on this. Would LOVE to see #2 in action, though! 🤣🤣🤣 8mo
Enchanted_Bibliophile I want to do 2... But as a hostess I'd prefer 3 🤷🏼‍♀️ 8mo
Cinfhen I find the BEST discussions are usually when I/we politely disagree on a book, but of course it‘s after I‘ve enjoyed the baked goods and had my fill of wine 🍷❤️😉 Go For It, Reggie! Burn the place down with your wit and charm xx 8mo
Cinfhen And #CuriousMinds want to know…what was the book???? 8mo
RaeLovesToRead I have totally number 2-ed at several book clubs before. In fact, I can think of several books I'm STILL ANNOYED ABOUT! 🤣🤣🤣 8mo
RaeLovesToRead Also, a 4th option... have you considered sharing your opinion through the medium of Puppets? "Well personally, I enjoyed the book, but Mr Snuggles has a few things to say..." (at this time, whip out a hand puppet and let rip. If anyone complains, look innocent and point at the puppet #bookclubtactics) 8mo
RamsFan1963 While option #2 would be the most emotionally satisfying one, I'd probably go with #3 so it least I'd get fed and could keep my negativity to a minimum. 8mo
Ruthiella Definitely the sock puppet option! 😂 8mo
Susanita You can‘t do worse than an old guy in my mystery book club who walked into our 7:00 at 6:59. He threw the book on the table and said he hated it. The meeting went downhill from there. (I actually liked the book. 🤷🏻‍♀️) 8mo
Susanita @Cinfhen I find that the best discussions are when nobody likes the book so we spend the meeting trashing it. 😎 8mo
Jas16 I was in a book club with one of my best friends and we strongly disagree about almost every book so we rarely had a meeting where everyone agreed. I think that makes it more interesting and you should share how you really feel. 8mo
CoverToCoverGirl My motto is there isn‘t any book that‘s to everyone‘s taste. Your views are your views. In a book club everyone‘s point of view should be appreciated… But I would certainly enjoy option 1 & 2. Now that would be a book club meeting to remember.. especially so it there was popcorn involved !🍿🤣 (edited) 8mo
Cinfhen Oh the joys of bookclub @Susanita !!!! 8mo
RaeLovesToRead What was the book? 8mo
Reggie @RaeLovesToRead @Cinfhen the book was The Enchanted Hacienda. 8mo
vivastory The most memorable #NYRBBookClub discussions for me were at the opposite ends of the spectrum: they were months when the vast majority loved the selection or the months when they hated it 8mo
merelybookish I was hoping for an exciting report and am slightly disappointed to hear it was all quite civilized. 😂 8mo
Bookzombie I quite like all three options and probably would pay to see #2 in action. I‘m glad your discussion went well though. 🙂 8mo
sarahbarnes Would‘ve given a lot to see option 2! 😁 8mo
Rissreads Aghh Reggie, isn‘t life wonderful! ♥️ 8mo
Centique Oh my god i wish id seen this earlier and could have begged you to mske some drama. 😂😂 Perhaps next time you could say “im going to express my opinions in the form of interpretive dance” and then stomp all over the baked goods 😂😂 8mo
Centique My only book club experience though (which i may have said already) was a bunch of very polite women lawyers who would grit their teeth about the book i chose and say “i just dont like books about people who make bad decisions” 🤯 8mo
kspenmoll Seems like #2 is the winner! I agree with many here. There is more to discuss when people have divergent views. 7mo
kspenmoll By the way, Happy Litsyversary!!! 7 yrs🎉🎉👏🏻 7mo

Pickpick

The past is never settled in this unsettling novel by Magda Szabo.
The murder of young Henriette in WWII has a lasting effect on all of the three families that had been peacefully living closely together in Budapest until the. Her death is symbolic for all that happens in the book during the war and the communist period afterwards. In their complicated attempts to save one another, the characters are just as likely to destroy one another. ⬇️

BarbaraBB I have now read three of her books and all are fantastic. My favorite is 8mo
Ruthiella Awesome! I still need to read her. 8mo

vivastory @BarbaraBB I haven't read it. I received it last week in my NYRB order. Definitely looking forward to it. 8mo
batsy This was a pick for me, too! I think I prefer Iza's Ballad a bit more (these are the only two I've read). 8mo

#MayMontage #InvolvesAWedding Even though our #NYRBBookclub disbanded awhile ago, many of the titles we read stuck with me. This one would definitely be in the top 3 of all of them.
