Hurt and hatred are stubborn guests, but time softens even the sharpest blades and we're left with the lightness of letting go.

Jonathan Safran Foer's “Everything Is Illuminated“ is beautifully layered, rich in humour, emotion and heartbreak. A stunning exploration of memory, history and identity. One of my favourite books!

Not my favourite Kate Quinn but no one does historical fiction as well as she does. Mila was understandably prickly and her backstory was captivating but ultimately, the amount of violence was a bit above my threshold.

A 2024 read

CoverToCoverGirl My least favorite by her too. 2w
annahenke I loved this one! I‘m such a Kate Quinn super fan! 2w

I honestly can't believe we're living through another DJT presidency. It's going to be a tough four years. #2 #2025

Amiable I don‘t think the country is going to last 4 months. 2w

This is a story told through alternating timelines including Matthew in the U.S. in 2020 and 3 cousins in Soviet Ukraine and the U.S. in the 1930s. Mila has grown up never knowing want and believing the party propaganda, Nadiya‘s family has starved in the Holdomor but she manages to show up at Mila‘s door to ask for help, and Helen‘s family has immigrated to the U.S. but is still in touch with Nadiya.

Daisey I enjoyed this story, especially the girls‘ different perspectives, but I found Winterkill more harrowing and informative. If this one interests you, definitely look that one up as well. My review:

SpeculativeFemale Such Sharp Teeth is so good! 1mo
vonnie862 Looks like the right amount of books to me 1mo
MaleficentBookDragon @SpeculativeFemale so far I‘ve really liked all of Harrison‘s books that I‘ve read. So Thirsty is my current favorite. 1mo
SpeculativeFemale @MaleficentBookDragon I just read So Thirsty recently, and I honestly can't decide if I like So Thirsty or Such Sharp Teeth better. 1mo
MaleficentBookDragon @SpeculativeFemale I read The Return towards the end of the year and really liked it except that it built up great but then it felt rushed at the end. I think it was her first novel so that can be expected. It would make a great movie. 1mo
