Bk3 of #24in48 #readathon is another Graphic Novel collection. I first heard of this series after seeing the movie with Cara Delevingne & Rihanna. It was silly & funny & I loved it, so of course I had to track down the comic it‘s based on. It‘s aged a bit, it was written in the late 60s so it‘s a bit sexist honestly, but it‘s still a lot of fun. Also another #BookspinBingo read.

#BookMail Pt2 I recently saw the movie based on these comics, Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets directed by Luc Besson, and fell in love cheesy bits & all. I loved French comics as a kid, I reread every Tintin and Asterix & Obelisk book in my local library as a kid, but missed these ones. They‘re a bit dated, but still awesome. And very very French!

“Since I found this little apartment in Greenwich Village I‘ve grown fond of it.” — Laureline to Valerian

I just finished this fun little #adventure #comic: A futuristic time cop and his lovely assistant travel to a flooded New York.

I wonder if I can find a library source for these in the original language—it would be a great way to practice my french.

My library extended patrons' Overdrive limit from ten titles to twenty. Hurray! This'll make it a lot easier for me to poke around the Canada Reads long list and plan out my upcoming audiobooks.

It turns out digital comics work in Libby, too. I always used to have to read them in my browser, which I hate doing, so that's a major plus. Good changes, library!

TobeyTheScavengerMonk The movie was visually stunning but miscast with a mess of a plot (plus Laureline losing her top billing was messed up), but I‘m contemplating tracking these down because I love space cops! 6y
UrsulaMonarch That's so great! Yay library! 6y
xicanti @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I read and enjoyed the first volume in French, so I look forward to exploring the rest of the series. 6y
xicanti @Lkelly it looks like they now offer video content through Overdrive, too, but I doubt I'll use that very often. 6y
UrsulaMonarch @xicanti interesting! I'm kind of embarrassed by how little I use streaming video resources- I was so excited when my library got #kanopy but I have yet to use it! 😳 6y

Great sci-fi! I can totally understand why they would have been advanced stories for their time. The character artwork is a little cartoonist compared to the stories, but once I was pulled into the story it wasn't as distracting. I recommend this to anyone that loves high science fiction.

The first book in the Valerian and Laureline series transports them to New York City in 1986 after it‘s submerged from an industrial accident. (The book was written in 1967.) At times, it is a bit dated and it‘s story structure is definitely from another era, but still it‘s a fun adventure.

This was great. The drawings are fantastic and the idea of the story leaves tons of room for many adventures with Valerian and Laureline. I love the old school vibe and the world that has been created. Will definitely be reading the rest of these.

Loved the movie so giving the comic a try. Have never really been into comics so this is an experiment.
