I only read 60 pages of this novel but I know I won't like. I am so sdisoppeinted because I like witch stories and the cover is amazingly beautiful.

I‘d call this more a creative essay than a novel. The story moves slowly & the author invests a lot of time in descriptions, historical detailing & visual overlaps. I loved it because I am interested in #feminist history and the way that religion tried to suppress female knowledge & traditions by casting aspersions on women with the superstition based fear of “witches”. A depiction of what can happen to our communities when we let fear creep in.

One of the most interesting yet infuriating and sad things I‘ve ever read. The levels men would go to blame women for absolutely everything and have them tortured and killed is beyond belief, a lot of it in the name of religion. This is such a hard read but part of human history which everyone should know about
I don‘t think I‘ve ever highlighted a book so much!

I'm putting snaps on a stack of dice trays this afternoon, which would be a really boring task if I didn't have audio books. #AudioCrafting #Studio42Books

I just finished the tagged book, about a servant woman caught up in the witch trials. I was disappointed. While the book was well written, I don't think it brought anything new to the table. I didn't connect with the main character and wasn't invested in the outcome at all. 😕

CatLass007 I‘m sorry you didn‘t love your book. But at least you had it to keep you company. You said these are going to be dice trays. I‘m not familiar with what game you‘re building. But there‘s a dragon on it so I‘m interested. Will you be taking these to sell at a craft fair? 6mo
GondorGirl @CatLass007 dice trays are useful if you're posting Dungeons and Dragons or any game with a lot of dice. You can roll the dice in the tray and it keeps them from falling off the table. We have two comic conventions in November that we'll be vending at. 6mo
CatLass007 I have never played D&D. Which could explain why I couldn‘t recognize their use. I‘m trying to remember if I‘ve played any games with more than two dice. I think these are going to sell like hot cakes. I think before I read that they‘re going to be dice trays, I was picturing this with a lid so that it was a holder for mementos. Good luck at your comic conventions. 6mo

Bk2 of my #BookMail is this gorgeous edition of the historical witchy novel.Set in East Anglia in 1645, Martha is a midwife, healer & servant, living peacefully in her village of Cleftwater. But she has not spoken a word in years. Witness to a witch-hunt led by Silas Makepeace, she‘s enlisted to search the accused women‘s bodies for evidence of witchcraft. Desperate to keep her own secrets, she revives a poppet of her mothers in hope of protection.

I enjoyed getting back to this historical mystery series that is set in 17th century York. This time Midwife Bridget Hodgson is pitted against witch hunter‘s that are out to execute innocent women. This one was a real page turner. Sam Thomas excels at setting a scene—he makes you feel like you are there!

Weirdly, this is the 3rd or 4th witch hunt/burnings book I‘ve read this year. This is really well written and interesting, and does a great job of character development and crafting the remote setting. It is also stressful (check content warnings), as witch hunt books usually are! #LGBTQ #LGBTQIA #WitchHunt
