Wuthering Heights | Emily Bront

Finished this a few days ago for #wutheringheightsbuddyread

It‘s my third time reading it and I love that in different stages of my life I have different feelings towards it. It‘s still my favourite book but this time round I see Heathcliff in a different (& worse) way 😲 - and if I had to pick a favourite character it would be Hareton. I love it all though 💙

(Took this pic on my walk overlooking the North York Moors 🍁)

StacksNShelves Beautiful cover paired with a beautiful view. I️ haven‘t read this yet, but hoping to soon. 7y
LitLogophile Hmmmm I‘ve read Wuthering Heights twice and it was my first favorite book, but I haven‘t read it for years. Your post has me thinking I should go back to it and see how my opinion has changed 🤔 7y
youneverarrived @StacksNShelves It was a lush view. It‘s definitely worth the read! 7y

youneverarrived @LitLogophile You should 😘 it‘s interesting seeing how you feel about the same book but at different points in your life. It‘s not often I re-read books but this is one I always will 💙 7y
Tamra Yes! 7y
Cathythoughts Yes just reread too & Hareton is also my fave 7y

An obvious difference is that Cathy and Hareton both change their opinions of one another over time, and they mature. (somewhat, at least 😂)

llwheeler I agree, Cathy/Hareton seem able to grow, learn, break out of the mold they were forced into (Hareton mostly, since Cathy had prob the best upbringing of any character). Whereas Catherine/Heathcliff seem more to accept the roles they are forced into even though it's self-destructive 7y
youneverarrived I think there‘s more similarities than differences between them but I agree that Cathy & Hareton are more mature etc. 7y
llwheeler Thanks for hosting this buddy read! It was the first one I've participated in on Litsy and pushed me to read a classic I otherwise would have taken years to get to. I really enjoyed both the book and my first buddy read 😁👏 7y
mrsthilkey @llwheeler I wish I had more profound thoughts 😂😂 I definitely understand why people read this novel over and over. She really fit so much into one book. 7y
llwheeler @mrsthilkey Yeah, same. I can see myself rereading in the future 7y

I did it! I know several of you did it, too! I enjoyed the second half much more than the first and of course now I'm thinking I need to read it again at some point. 😄 #wutheringheightsbuddyread

General thoughts?? I think my rating for now is 4 stars, but that could change. I loved the last chapter. Keep an eye out for a couple discussion questions and post some your own! 🥀🍃🥀🍃

llwheeler Overall my general thought is... this book is so much crazier than I was led to believe! 😂 i did really enjoy it though, so much to think about 7y
mrsthilkey Right?! 🤣 7y
Ash.on.the.line Definitely crazier than expected. I was surprised it was described as a love story honestly. I didn‘t see a lot of love 😅😂 7y

Finished Wuthering Heights for #wutheringheightsbuddyread! Looking forward to the final discussion this weekend - I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad I finally read it. Now I can focus more attention on #lotrchapteraday... the blue bookmark is where I should be, the white bookmark is where I am. Luckily it's #litsypartyofone this weekend so I should be able to catch up!

Andrea4 Ry and I have been "reading" the Simarillion this whole year... 7y
llwheeler Lol that's why I figured I'll jump on the chapter a day. Good push to keep going with it 7y
mrsthilkey Yaaaaay! I'm finally enjoying it, too. Might finish tomorrow. 7y

Pickpick

This wasn't what I expected but a great story. A book filled with so much hate but described as a love story. I didn't know much about Emily Bronte and apparently neither did others after I read the introduction. I truly wish now she lived to write more and see where her mind was when she wrote WH. A lasting, mysterious story for the time it was written and one I enjoyed!
Read ahead for #WutheringHeightsbuddyread hope to catch final discussion.

mrsthilkey Yes, I can't believe this is a love story. I'm reading it for the first time at age 31 so maybe that matters- I'm just seeing mental illness and abuse. I'm really starting to like it though- hopefully finishing tomorrow. 7y
Ash.on.the.line @mrsthilkey Yes, mental illness and abuse were what I was seeing as well. I enjoyed it but still question the love story! Glad you‘re enjoying too! 7y

This week's discussion is on revenge/love. Heathcliff's relationship with Hareton seems especially appropriate - I think Heathcliff loves him best aside from Cathy, and equally unhealthily. A twisted fatherly love/pride, "this is what I have created." In revenging himself on Hindley, he created Hareton, but sees enough of himself in Hareton that he becomes fond of him. So messed up, but fascinating
@mrsthilkey

mrsthilkey Ugh all of Heathcliff's relationships are unhealthy. Did he ever even stand a chance though... 7y
llwheeler @mrsthilkey I really don't think he ever did... 7y

I had such a busy weekend so no time to read. I decided to get up early and read outside.
Fun fact: I live across from an old abandoned school. (Sounds scarier than it is lol) sunny this morning but now it's rainy.
Catching up on #WutheringHeightsbuddyread
