Watership Down
Watership Down | Richard Adams
A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for over forty years, Richard Adams spellbinding classic Watership Down is one of the best-loved novels of all time. Set in the beautiful English countryside of the Berkshire Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage, and survival follows a band of very special rabbits fleeing the destruction of their home by a developer. Led by a stout-hearted pair of brothers, they leave the safety of Sandleford Warren in search of a safe haven and a mysterious promised land, skirting danger at every turn.A book that resonates as vividly today as it did nearly half a century ago, this keepsake Oneworld Classic edition showcases more than twenty sumptuous, evocative paintings from Aldo Galli, an illustrator chosen by Richard Adams himself.

1. The Intuitionist
2. So many! I love learning new things. Games, hiking, crocheting, cross stitch, going for drives, playing car racing games with my husband on the PS4, gardening - we grew up being told that “bored“ was a bad word, so now I never am! 😆
3. Tagged is the most probable.

I unfortunately had not heard of this children‘s classic until it was a pick for #LMPBC #Round7 #GroupC. I am so glad I went on this rabbit adventure full of mischief and danger. I never knew rabbit life could be so perilous! It does take some getting used to the foliage descriptions, but they made sense considering the world the reader is immersed in. I think I may get a copy for myself, perhaps on audio. This has been mailed! 4⭐️s!

JaclynW I've never looked at rabbits the same way after reading this book.😳 2mo
lele1432 @JaclynW Haha yes!! I have been exposed to a completely different world of rabbits and I can‘t look at them the same! 2mo
JaclynW @lele1432 When reading, I kept asking myself, "This book is for children?!" ??? 2mo

lele1432 @JaclynW lol yes! I almost wrote that in this post but ran out of room. I‘m not quite so sure how this became a classic for children...aside from it being about rabbits...but it seemed more relatable to me as an adult! 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 2mo
TiredLibrarian I read this years ago. Don't remember many details, but I do remember parts that were very scary, at least to my teen self! 2mo
JaclynW @lele1432 Exactly! 2mo
lele1432 @TiredLibrarian yep! I was unprepared for the amount of danger, suspense, and the pulse-racing parts! It‘s definitely not just a cute story about bunnies lol. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks This is a book I enjoyed back in the day, so I'm looking forward to getting to it when it's my turn. However, I have to agree that it definitely does NOT seem like a children's book to me!! 2mo

A childhood classic it took me far too long to get around to reading, this quickly ended up one of my favourites of all time. Seriously endearing, this book broke my heart and rejuvenated my spirit in one fell swoop. I was torn between wanting desperately to know the ending, and never wanting the book to end.

First adult book I ever read.

With the exception of Buckthorn and the addition of Bluebell, the rabbits who set off from the southern end of the beech hanger early the next morning were those who had left Sandleford with Hazel five weeks before.

So exciting, an adventure worth revisiting

Just finished and not ready to do even a short review, but I have to just vent my frustration with myself: I've had my copy of Watership Down since high school but didn't read it until JUST NOW. I've had this book just sitting there for about HALF of my life without reading it. Suffice to say, I am very grateful to have rectified that situation, however late it now feels.

Tfw even a 45-y.o. book about rabbits by a white British dude with no direct political message (as in, not like how Animal Farm is a critique of Stalin) recognizes that a key aspect of totalitarian regimes is oppression, control, and complete disregard for the lives and autonomy of women.

This was hard!

1. Having been an avid reader as a child, I think I had a bit of a rebellious phase when I had to start reading for English Lit, I can‘t remember books from my secondary school years. Watership Down is about the latest I can remember.

2. Duran Duran - oh, John Taylor❤️

3. 80s perm, not a really big or tight one; more like Jennifer Grey‘s hair in this picture.

4. Oversize T-shirt & leggings.

This was an interesting read. An epic adventure of rabbits. At first it was difficult for me to get into until about halfway through then it started to pick up and I couldn‘t stop reading even at the beginning when it was slower but all in all a great book

vumblereads I‘m reading this now and I see what you mean about it being a little slow in the beginning. It talks a lot about foliage too, most of them I don‘t even know of. I‘m hoping the rest of the 400+ pages are more than just plants. 3mo

Well, that was a good book. There were several tense moments in it as I really did not want anything bad to happen to these rabbits who‘d all followed two brothers, one of whom had a vision that their home would be destroyed, out of their home warren into the wider world looking for a place of safety.
