Death on the Nile
Death on the Nile: Hercule Poirot Investigates | Agatha Christie
293 posts | 356 read | 8 reading | 90 to read
The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful. A girl who had everything . . . until she lost her life.Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: 'I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.' Yet in this exotic setting nothing was ever quite what it seemed.

This one I am on the fence about. It is somewhere between a So-so and a pick. The beginning was so slow. The murder doesn't take place until the halfway point. It was hard to get into the story. I stuck with it because it was a book for #LMPBC I didn't feel any remorse for the victim and most of characters I didn't care for. 3.5 ⭐

KristiAhlers That is actually one of my least favorite by her. And yet it‘s one of the most recognized titles she wrote. 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures I had such a hard time keeping the characters straight in this one. 1mo

Skip the movie, but definitely read the book. Thankfully, I read the book first and just saw the movie as a follow up. I would skip it for sure. But the book is classic and artful Agatha Christie!

I am such a huge mystery fan, so I can‘t believe that I have never read Agatha Christie. This is my first one 😁

BookDragonNotWorm I read 'And Then There Were None' when I was 12 or 13 and it made me a lifelong fan AND made me want to be a writer so I could return the favor and blow someone's mind with an awesome plot twist! 😁 1mo

Given that this was copyrighted in 1937, wow. I'm excited to finish watching the movie, also. Ensemble cast, and twisty. A little annoying that it was impossible to predict without other information not supplied until the end of the book, coupled with the fact that while poirot was the protagonist, even his own revelations were seldom revealed. 7/10.

Death on the Nile is on Hulu. I wanted to see it in theaters but just didn‘t get to it.

I‘m already annoyed with the beginning. I‘m hoping it gets better and stays closer to the story! And I love Gal Gadot 💚

#agathachristieclubr2

DGRachel I can't bring myself to watch that mustache. Branaugh's version of Murder on the Orient Express was so awful. I hope this one gets better for you!! 2mo
Laughterhp @DGRachel They‘ve added a backstory to this one about the “why” behind the mustache. 🙄🙄 2mo
LiteraryinLawrence I watched it and was VERY disappointed as a Christie purist. @Laughterhp You were right to miss it @DGRachel ! Though I guess I‘m glad I saw it to know what people are complaining about? 2mo
See All 8 Comments
Laughterhp @LiteraryinLawrence Unfortunately these are the only 2 Christie adaptations I‘ve seen 😬😬 I feel like I should probably change that lol 2mo
DGRachel The 2016 miniseries of And Then There Were None with Aiden Turner was fantastic. I also like the Tommy & Tuppence series that Acorn TV did as well. Those episodes are fun. 2mo
LiteraryinLawrence @Laughterhp That‘s ok! That means you get to discover the magic of David Suchet as Poirot for the first time! He‘s my favorite. 💗 2mo
DGRachel Also, the 1974 movie version of Murder on the Orient Express is so much better than Branagh‘s version and truer to the novel. 2mo
Laughterhp @LiteraryinLawrence Oh my, I just finished this movie and am so mad at the ending. My husband was laughing at how upset I was. 2mo

Another fun murder mystery from the Grand Dame Agatha Christie. I wasn't certain who-dun-it, but I had my suspicions and I was correct. If I learned anything from trying The Mysterious Affair at Styles on audio, it is that I need to actually read these books to help keep the people straight. Sure, I needed a cheat sheet early on to help me remember who each person was in relation to the others, but it all came together for me ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick about 1/3 of the way into it. Hercule Poirot is smart with a bit of jaded sass that I find quite enjoyable. I can't say this gave me a good sense of place within Egypt since we're on a boat and all, but it was an interesting journey down the Nile.

This brilliant murder mystery stands the test of time. Not only is it exceedingly clever, but it also has all of the juicy drama to keep the pages turning - beautiful people, an exotic location, money, love, heartbreak, betrayal… I loved Hercule Poirot‘s panache and his insights on the human experience. I‘m excited to see the movie and hope it does it justice! #BOTM

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Every Christmas I ask for an Agatha Christie book via my work‘s Secret Santa, and they delivered on it this year!
I‘m always amazed at Christie‘s humor & modernity, even though this book is 85 years old. And she brings in so many characters but somehow makes it easy to keep track of everyone.
One red herring after another shows up, and I was happily shocked by the reveling of the culprit. Looking forward to seeing the movie soon!

How did you like Death on the Nile? Did you predict the murderer?

For me 4/5 ⭐️ I enjoyed the mystery! I like Poirot! I wished there was more about Egypt. My murderer thoughts will be in a spoiler comment.

Thanks for reading with me!
#pantone2022

Catsandbooks I went back and forth on the murderer being Doyle or Pennington. I was surprised that Jackie killed Doyle and herself at the end, but later when I thought about it, it made sense for her. 4mo
Bookwormjillk Thanks for hosting. This wasn‘t my favorite Christie, but Poirot is always fun. 4mo
Butterfinger I thought it may have been a duo, but I couldn't understand why the murders kept happening so I doubted myself. 4mo
See All 15 Comments
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I enjoyed this but just as you said, I would've liked more about Egypt, though I had a feeling it would be light on details. After a while I started to suspect Doyle or maybe sweet Mrs Atherton wasn't all that sweet. Jackie & Doyle's ending did surprise me. It moved along at a good pace & kept me guessing. 4/5 stars for me, too. 4mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! This is one where I just really enjoy Poirot's character and his sort of “Papa Poirot“ role where he tries to stop everyone from doing what they're thinking about doing. 4mo
Jerdencon I enjoyed it a lot also! Love how I tried so hard to figure it out but she always keeps you guessing! 4mo
BrittanyReads I never guess whodunnit, but unfortunately did this time right off!! It didn't ruin the overall read and I still rated it a 4! I, too, wished to see more of a focus on Egypt. Poirot is the best. I've loved all his books! Can't wait to read more! Thank you all! This was fun! 4mo
Crazeedi I did like it, a very different style of writing, and no I didn't figure out the murderer! I'm not the greatest sleuth 4mo
Roary47 I liked it as well. I didn‘t guess who did it, but was surprised that it was so obvious. I was like naw couldn‘t be them and it was! 🤯 4mo
KellyK This was my second Christie read… I think I need to keep a list of all the characters to keep them straight. 😬 4mo
BrittanyReads @Roary47 I suspected them right from the beginning but also thought it was way too obvious to be true! Haha the ending surprised me though!! 4mo
Roary47 @BrittanyReads Right?! Who would expect that. 4mo
Catsandbooks @TheAromaofBooks "papa poirot" ? love it! 4mo
AnneCecilie I had seen the TV production of this so remembered some things like part of who the killer was. If I hadn‘t seen it before, I never would‘ve have guessed. I‘m easy to fool. I enjoyed this. 4mo
