Just got my copy of Midnight Sun in the mail, can‘t wait to read it! Anybody read this yet?

GingerAntics Yes. Just keep your expectations low. If you‘re a huge Edward fan, I‘d skip it. 4y
Keishla.O @GingerAntics noted. Edward was never my fav so I guess I‘ll see 4y
GingerAntics That should help. If your favourite was one of the other Cullens, you see way more of them, so that was nice. Good luck in there. 4y

The Giver | Lois Lowry

Pickpick

This SF, Newberry Medal winner book, would be best used as a LC. This book follows the life of boy named Jonas as he begins to the learn the dark truth about his seemingly perfect life in his seemingly perfect town. At the Ceremony of Twelve, Jonas is given the most prestigious job in the community, the Receiver of Memory. Upon his assignment, Jonas begins training with the current Receiver of Memory, The Giver. #ucflae3414sp20

Keishla.O Jonas' training consists of being transferred the memories and emotions that the community gave up in order to create their wannabe utopia. During his training, Jonas learns what happens when somebody is released. Jonas is horrified and makes it his mission to rescue Gabriel, whom is scheduled to be released. Jonas' mission takes him and Gabriel to Elsewhere, far away from his community. What happens while they're away, the book leaves unanswered. 5y
Keishla.O UDL 2.1 (Clarify vocabulary and symbols) can be used to clarify the veiled secrets of the town that may go over the heads of young children.
ESOL strategy 11 (Place language in meaningful context) can be used hand in hand with the UDL strategy.

Zathura: A Space Adventure | Chris Van Allsburg

Pickpick

This SF book is great for PR. This book tells the story about how two brothers, Walter and Danny, got sucked into a board game. After one of Walter and Danny's frequent brother fights, they stumbled upon a game called Jumanji. In this box was a board game that led to planet Zathura. Their adventure game to Zathura turned into a real fight for their lives. Will the boys be able to work together to get back home? Read and find out!

Keishla.O Once Danny rolled the dice to this game, he and his house were transported to outer space, and just like that they were in the game. They dodge meteor showers, are overcome by gravity, battle a robot and a pirate, etc. Can the boys work together to beat the game? Do they make it back home? Read it and find it! #ucflae3414sp20

Keishla.O UDL 8.3 (Foster collaboration and community) can be met by having the students work together to think of ways the boys in the book can resolve their brother quarrels and beat the game.

Harry Potter | JK Rowling

Pickpick

This F, NY Times Best Seller, series is my favorite! The series is a bit controversial so they‘d be better suited for IR. These books follow a boy, Harry Potter, as he discovers that he is a wizard and begins his schooling at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Throughout the books, Harry deals with typical school drama as well as an evil figure (He who shall not be named) who conjures up a way to try and kill Harry. #ucflae3414sp20

Keishla.O There is so much that happens in these 7 books that you truly have to read them so that you can experience the magic for yourself. There isn't enough characters allowed to do a full summary of the series.
5y
Keishla.O UDL 1.2 (Offer alternatives for auditory information) can be met by providing the audio versions of the books.
ESOL strategy 6 (Continually monitor students‘ comprehension) can be met by doing frequent check-ins to assure the students understand the story.

deiacovab What a timeless series. I‘m reading them all for the first time ever! I always loved this high fantasy universe in the movies growing up and as an adult I knew I was missing more magic. These are the kind of books that transport you to another world and can get kids reading series! 5y
KarliCrean I have never read/seen any Harry Potter movie/book! Everyone that I‘ve told that too has called me crazy because they are so good! I should invest some time in reading the book series, thank you for reminding me of them (: 5y
