This year my mom and I adopted the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod or "The Christmas Book Flood." We each made a list of books we were interested in and bought off those lists!

Mine was this lovely paperback here! And now I will settle in with my Christmas book and enjoy Jolabokaflod!

Happy Holidays Litsy!

A perfectionist in the middle of a downward spiral. This book has as much to teach students about self-care as anything else! Would definitely recommend it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I picked this book up from Book of the Month Club! I thought it would be riveting but I was able to guess the mystery within the first quarter of the book. The last half was a trial for me to get through and with mediocre writing I didn't find it suspenseful at all.

britt_brooke Nailed it. 🎯😉 7y
AnnieReads Yep, mediocre it was. 7y

After a few so-so thrillers, Good as Gone was a refreshing take on the missing child genre that had me guessing until the very end. I couldn't put this book down and devoured half of it in a single day! I think that fact along speaks for the book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

AnnieReads I was really engaged by this one, too. 7y

This book has a bit of everything: mystery, romance, all wrapped in a historical fiction casing. The characters are dynamic and the plot kept me turning the pages until the very end!

I liked this book. Each chapter reads like its own short story and the characters weave together with a careful precision! The store is about Eva but also the people who influence Eva.

Liked the premise but I couldn't get into the relationship between Sloane and James. The book is also set in a world that has a lot of misconceptions about depression and suicide. I wanted to like it but in the end there were too many inaccuracies.

After all the hype I decided to listen to this as an audiobook. The performances were great, but I found the plot predictable and only really liked Rachel. Not to mention it left me with an intense feeling of loneliness.

Joanne1 I thought it worked better as an expression of loneliness and isolation in a modern world than as a crime novel and admired it for that reason. 8y
Bakingbookworm I totally understand and have unfortunately experienced the overly-hyped book. A letdown for sure. I enjoyed this book so much more than Gone Girl (which everyone but me loved). If I don't care about any character then we have a problem. :) 8y
LaurenBusser @Joanne1 you are right I liked it for that reason. I actually came away from the book feeling profoundly lonely. 8y
LaurenBusser @Bakingbookworm Yea. I just felt lonely and I only really cared about Rachel. 8y

Three sisters narrate their story as one entity when they return home to nurse their mother who's been diagnosed with cancer. An interesting narrative style, but I can get behind it. Good quotes about Shakespeare too and living with a genius.

Wasn't really thrilled with this book. It was an interesting perspective but some phrases kept pulling me out of Evie's infatuation and bringing me back to the real world. The writing was beautiful but I think the plot could have been fine tuned a little more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I loved this book. Almost bailed in the beginning because it's kind of confusing and slow at first, but stick with it. It's worth it! 8y

I was so excited to get an ARC of this book. I loved this book. It was a unique and tense tale of a high school senior who may have killed her best friend. The story is told from the first person, and intercuts with police reports and interviews. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can't remember a book that I connected with as much as this one. The story is about a man and his dog but I think it is poignant enough to transcend the love people have for their pets and be a story of love, loss, and forgiveness between people. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Can't say enough about this book! I feel that it is an important read for today's culture. The fact that it is fiction doesn't diminish the message of this book. Dialogue about consent needs to be opened up and this story illustrates why, perfectly.
