The List: A Novella | Mick Herron

Pickpick

2.5 of the Slough House series and this time I find myself drawn these two:

JK Coe - the guy's obviously smart but tortured so what exactly is his back story? Not much answer can be found here but at least his other side is revealed.

Hannah Weiss - is she a naivete seeking the thrill of an adventure as a spy-wannabe or is that just a persona she is adopting? This book introduces her but does not reveal who she really is.

CatMS Love the Slough House menagerie. "The List" a novella introduces a couple new characters that hopefully we see sometime in the series. Would like to know more about Hannah, John Bachelor, who is a prime candidate for Slough House, we will meet again in novellas 5.5 and 6.5. 2y

Moving on to the next instalment in the Slough House series, The Drop. Bet this will be as good if not better!

* Update* A pretty fast read and a good intro to a new Slow Horse member (the poor thing....!). However, this novella has a loose end which I suspect will set the scene for the next instalment to this series.

Found a new series I‘ll be obsessing over. This is my second by Mick Herron and yep, the critics were right - it does get better with each book!😆

Starting on a new crime thriller and my first intro to Det. Wisting. Five chapters in, I‘m liking this more than my previous read. Hope it‘ll get better hereon.😊 *Update - well, that ended quite unexpectedly! A bit of an anti-climax towards the end but I like the characters so I‘ll be looking out for the next Wisting-Stiller collaboration.😏*

I‘m not a big fan of audiobooks as I prefer to see the words when I read rather than hear it. Yet this has kept my ears glued to the headphones, especially during my morning jogs.
There were lots of mixed reviews about this book out there but for now I‘m enjoying it very much. Predictable plot though. 😁

This is a book that started off slow and there are times when I wonder what are the purposes of those lengthy descriptions. But believe me, it will all make sense towards the end. Unlike most crime thrillers which are mostly adreline-pumping sprints to find the perpretrator, this book is a slow-burn and very much character-driven, which makes it all the more addictive.

Newcomer: A Mystery | Keigo Higashino

Pickpick

An intricate riddle that takes a while for every piece of the puzzle to come together. And when it does, all the pieces fit perfectly!

Newcomer may not be an exhilarating fast-paced crime thriller but its storyline is no less intriguing and the main character, Detective Kyoichiro Kaga, is a charming and unconventional character.
