Jorg Ancrath is a unique character. I have never read one like him and Mark has done a splendid job in making his twisted past, overconfident present and uncertain future look interesting all on the same page.
A quick re-read of the series still I can't bring myself to read the latest instalment- Empire of Storms. 😑. Why?
I laughed at this and at the point when Laurent played the Role of Jokaste wearing a skirt and probably making the captain role down in shame with his blood turned to ice. 😎. Deman is the open hearted warrior but Laurent is the boss.
pickI loved the trilogy. I have never read a love story like this but I found it real attractive while it danced around the question of trust, political greed, wars and freedom of love within slavery. Also I love the little jealous, condescending, arrogant pack of surprises and intellectuality, Laurent. Yup team Laurent.
I just love these two, how they let their guard down, both equal in power distant but definite and anchor into each other by accepting who they truly are- just Damen and Laurent, not kings to be or prince or political players.
pickI liked the tangible approach the story has created to appease gods. The setting is unique and there are so many points where you go... Wait what? How? And this is a beauty of writing that clarifies the readers as they read further exploring and learning something new. I just figured out this is going to be a series and I'm eagerly looking forward to read the next instalment and meet new characters, their gods and individual storylines.
I liked the classic love cross love story here. It's light but the world setting of it is interesting involving gods and choice of faith and ... Well murder.
