Assassin's Heart
Assassin's Heart | Sarah Ahiers
With shades of Game of Thrones and Romeo and Juliet, this richly imagined fantasy from debut author Sarah Ahiers is a tale of love, lies, and vengeance. Fans of Kristin Cashore and Rae Carson will devour the flawlessly crafted action and inventive world building.Seventeen-year-old Lea Saldana is a trained assassin. She was born into one of the nine clipper Families in the kingdom of Lovero who lawfully take lives for a price. As a member of the highest-ranking clan, loyalty to Family is valued above all, but that doesn't stop Lea from getting into a secret relationship with Val Da Via, a boy from a rival clan. Despite her better judgment, Lea has fallen in love with him; but she's confident she can anticipate any threat a mile away. Then she awakens one night to a house full of smoke. Although she narrowly escapes, she isn't able to save her Family as their home is consumed by flames. With horror, she realizes that Val and his Family are the only ones who could be responsible. Devastated over his betrayal and the loss of her clan, there's just one thing on her mind: making the Da Vias pay. The heart of this assassin craves revenge.

I absolutely loved this book because of the thrilling plot and the overall idea for the story. I really liked how most of the characters wore masks that were unrecognizable to the protagonist. So it was as a mystery to her as it was to the readers when people popped up and twisted the story. I personally loved the relationship between Lea and Les, it was cool to see how she went from loving someone like Val to the complete opposite being Les.

Full review coming on my blog tomorrow. I liked parts of this a lot (the world, the action, the MC) but the story really dragged in the middle.

This was so beautifully written that I was pulled in quickly by all of the imagery. The plot was well thought out, and although it was another book with assassins (of COURSE it had assassins) it was still a breath of fresh air.

I couldn‘t get enough of this. Although i wished at one point she‘d stop pining over Val. 🙄

Either way, I‘ll definitely be looking at the companion novel to this in the future. I was so hooked ♥️♥️

Makes me think of Venice of old and filled with secret societies everyone knew about except these ones are assassins.

This was great and twisted and turned and was not enough when it ended. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one

A great book full of vengeance, family and trust. Never underestimate your opponents and never take for granted your allies. Betrayal can hurt but deaths can never be replaced.

Why it was really boring and didn't really have much of a plot other than killing for revenge. Got bored around page 200 skipped and read the ending and wasn't that amazed.

Meh...I finished the book but I don't know that I'll read the sequel.

The female lead Lea is infuriatingly self blaming about EVERYTHING and ignores ppl saying things aren't her fault...then two pages later she'll change her mind.

There's A LOT of focus on romance which made the revenge aspect take a back up role.

The idea of the "bad" family being bad because they believe in a different god now is...problematic to me.

I love the male lead Les

In the kingdom of Lovero, families of assassins kill people for a price. As a member of one of these powerful clans, Lea Saldana has always trusted in the strength of her Family. Until she awakens to find them murdered and her home in flames. The Da Vias must be responsible. But her secret relationship with the Da Vias‘ son has clouded her killer instinct. Lea sets out to even the score, with one thought in her mind: make the Da Vias pay.

This wasn't a nightmare, but it still wasn't good. I wanted this to be a really fun read, but it was a little too boring and run of the mill a la instalove and tragedy gays. A lot of the action scenes were "I tripped him. He fell. He threw a dagger at me." Nothing really grabbed me and the setting was pretty copy/paste of Italy and France. The sequel looks interesting, but the mentions of the love story already makes me roll my eyes.

I liked the tangible approach the story has created to appease gods. The setting is unique and there are so many points where you go... Wait what? How? And this is a beauty of writing that clarifies the readers as they read further exploring and learning something new. I just figured out this is going to be a series and I'm eagerly looking forward to read the next instalment and meet new characters, their gods and individual storylines.

I liked the classic love cross love story here. It's light but the world setting of it is interesting involving gods and choice of faith and ... Well murder.

This was a great audiobook! I loved the narrator and the action was great. The characters made mistakes and suffered the consequences. The story was just what I needed, fast paced, romantic, and easy to follow. Who doesn't love an assassin named after a poisonous flower ... Oleander (or Lea) ❤️🌸

I mostly enjoyed this book. There was plenty of action in the beginning and the end. It was severely lacking in the middle. Lacking some world building, but I found Lea to be realistic and enjoyable to read about.
