Graphic novels still count as books right? Picked up this gem at a garage sale today. 😲 I‘m excited to read it for the first time. The intro already has me choked up. Even though I‘m not a huge DC fan there are some titles I just love, and this was such a groundbreaking series I‘m ready to jump in!

Finally finished #TheHateUGive. It‘s was incredibly poignant, relevant and moving. Angie Thomas has a way of drawing you into the story as almost a participant and not just a bystander. Starr‘s development throughout the story was touching and makes the tragedies she‘s gone through resonate with the reader. She is strong and brave and her voice is her weapon. I loved it.

Went to my library in search of Piers Anthony books from my childhood (that a lovely friend reminded me of). Unsuccessful in my Land of Xanth search I discovered this gem! As always I‘m excited to expand my knowledge of literature by Women POC authors. 💜

I did it! Finally! From beginning to end I devoured my first book of pleasure reading since graduating last August! This book was exactly what I needed. Poignantly written, I laughed, I cried, I saw myself in Sparrow, rejoiced in her triumphs and agonized with her anxieties. The music she loves reminds me so much of how music made me feel in my teen years. And a strong female lead with minimal male characters was an absolute delight. Girls rock!

Happy to report I‘m 8 chapters in on this excellent book! I was immediately reeled I‘m from the first chapter. Sparrow is so incredibly relatable even though our backgrounds are so different. Moons writing evokes memories of my adolescence easily. I‘m super looking forward to finishing this book!

After concluding that part of my issues getting back into reading is partially due to the fact that I‘ve chosen some “heavy” or “dense” books I dutifully consulted with my librarian friends for easily digestible YA. Sooo many friends pitched in with a wide variety of titles. Some Librarians and others librarian adjacent. My local library didn‘t have two books I was looking for, but they did have Sparrow and of course Gaiman is never a bad choice.

For those times when Regular Jesus just won‘t do. Get you some ACTION JESUS!

Sorry for being so slow to post. Still trying to get into the swing of reading again. I seem to keep picking stuff up for a few minutes and putting it down for a few weeks. Grad school and academia really wiped out my love of books for awhile. My mind wanders and and I am easily distracted when attempting to read. And I truly miss my old friends and the stories I used to immerse myself in. Let‘s just take it one day, one book at a time.
