House Rules | Jodi Picoult
post image

1. Jodi Picoult is one of my most favorite authors, and I've never read anything by her that I didn't like, but House Rules is my favorite. 😊

2. I think it was Life of the Party with Melissa McCarthy...? It's been a long time since I've seen a movie in the theater.

3. Watermelon! 🍉🥰

4. Too many to count - I have a big extended family.

5. Hi, everyone! 🤗🤗

Away from the internet, I don't talk much about my own gender - except for my partner, I don't think many people in my family know that I prefer neutral pronouns. But Jacob's story makes me feel less alone in the world. And the letters that they wrote to their parents at the end of the book had me CRYING.

I'm about halfway through this book currently, and as someone who's gone back and forth with their own gender over the years, I feel really grateful that Jacob Tobia decided to tell their story. It's nice to not feel alone.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I finally finished this book! A Clash of Kings was a bit confusing for me at times, trying to make sense of all the different armies and figuring out where everyone was. But overall, the next thrilling adventure in a series that I love!

The Hate U Give | Angie Thomas
Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A very powerful debut! Angie Thomas tackles a very real, very emotional, very heartbreaking thing that unfortunately does happen in our society. And she does so beautifully. The characters were all wonderful and complex, the plot was emotional, and I do recommend this story in a heartbeat. There are two sides to every story and just because one of them doesn‘t personally affect you, doesn‘t mean it isn‘t still worth thinking about.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good lord, the feels! I really enjoyed this one. The characters were all endearing, the emotions were all real, and there was a twist that I probably should‘ve seen coming but didn‘t. Rosie Colored Glasses is definitely one that I recommend!

Mrs. Fletcher: A Novel | Tom Perrotta
Mehso-so

⭐️⭐️⭐️ A good enough book to check out from the library, but I don‘t feel a need to read this again, so I won‘t be hurrying out to buy my own copy. I liked some parts, but others seemed very unrealistic, and some actually made me a bit uncomfortable. Overall, Mrs. Fletcher was just very “meh” to me.

⭐️⭐️ I tried with this book, I really did. But I was unable to finish it. I took a chance on a genre that I don‘t usually prefer, and the book did start off well. But eventually it got to the point where I found myself reading more so I could just finish the book and move on, not because I was actually enjoying the story. Life is too short to read books you‘re not totally interested in, so I‘m just going to give this one up and move on.

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I will never EVER forget this book! Ove was such a delightful character! I laughed out loud several times, and the ending actually made me cry. Ove reminded me so much of my Hubby, which added a wonderful personal emotional layer to the story for me. I love this book so much!

Mehso-so

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had high hopes for this story, and was left feeling rather underwhelmed. I didn‘t feel like there was a lot of world building or character development happening, and the plot seemed kind of weak to me. I‘m glad I checked A List of Cages our from the library, rather than spending money to buy my own copy. It wasn‘t “fantastic,” it wasn‘t “terrible,” it was just “okay.”

This story was cute, romantic, and fun. But for me, it was unfortunately missing that special “something.” It was “good,” not “great.” A good library find, but I don‘t think I‘ll be in a rush to buy my own copy.

I‘ve actually read this book quite a few times at this point, and I love it more and more each time! ASOIAF is one of my most favorite series, even though I haven‘t yet read all the books. I think the world of Westeros is so well crafted, and I can‘t wait to see how the rest of the series plays out!
