The conceit is weird and totally crazy but this audiobook is the easy sweet fantasy to get you out of a reading slump😂. I feel the cover gives the wrong impression and makes you think horror or at least dark fantasy.

I tried a few chapters and it just isn‘t doing it for me. The protagonist feels just off as an adult is much too whiny for me. Because we are in her head all of the time I had to bail

Very sweet end to a romance/ mystery series set in Regency era. The love triangle in the middle books was not my cup of tea but the last book resolves everything quite neatly. Too nice for real life but not bad for a romantic fantasy.

So far a great little mystery with sheep as the investigators in the case of the murdered Shepard. It is fun and refreshing because the sheep only know what you would imagine a real sheep to know about, not like in a lot of books with an animal POV where the animal just sounds like a smarter human with a better sense of smell and no hands.

Love the adventure, the pacing and the dragons. Great adventure writing. Unfortunately Rebecca Yarros can‘t write romance. You are mostly in the female protagonist head, and the portions of story where Violet thinks about the male protagonist were like being in the head of a twelve year old with her first crush. Because Violet comes across like a little girl, the sex scenes feel just wrong

Sorry to say this romance did not work for me. The main couple was bland and weirdly (because I like nice in romance)too nice for me and frankly boring. Some of the side characters were much more interesting and convincing. I almost didn‘t finish the book, glad I borrowed it from the library

Carlo Rovelli is just a great science writer. It is an enjoyable argument about Anaximader role as the first real scientist and how he has not been given his due as a major figure in science, not philosophy. More importantly Rovelli discusses and explains what is science and scientific thought. It‘s limits and its strengths. Very enjoyable

Loved the set up and the magical puppet, but some of the stories didn‘t work for me. Also, the group of stories didn‘t work well as a cohesive unit the way you expect in a short story collection, but I liked the book enough that would read a Full-size novel in this world.

The title is a bit too cute for me, but the blurb by Tom Holland clinched the deal and I got my next non-fiction read. Anyway I am a big fan of ancient Rome, and a big fan of murder as well.

RamsFan1963 Since it seems to be a topic coming up on Tik Tok and X (Twitter), how often do you think about the Roman Empire? 6mo
Angeles @RamsFan1963 Maybe not as often as they claim men do, but at least once a month! Still, it is more about the ancient writers and the strange ways in which human nature has not changed. Cirero's screeching abot the youth of "today" is particularly entertaining because you can see him almost word by word translated in a lot of Facebook posts by folksy age and older? 6mo
Angeles @RamsFan1963 sorry, I meant folks my age and older! 6mo

I am sure there will be some book by Hilary Mantel I don't enjoy, but I have not found it yet. I got the audiobook of this little gem from librofm and I highly recommend it. The ending is not fully resolved with a bow but still satisfying whichis hard to accomplish.
The picture shows why I have not been reading for the last couple of weeks while back home with beautiful weather.

The Book of the Courtier | conte Baldassarre Castiglione
Pickpick

Finally finished! It took me a year. Yes, it was that slow of a read, but what kept me reading was the window into a way to see the world so different from ours. Four courtiers and a duchess and her ladies dicuss the properties and character of the perfect courtier. There was a truly misogynistic character and it was excellent how the other characters challenged him and called out his hatred of women.

LiteraryinLawrence Wow, that is dedication. Congrats on finishing! 8mo
Angeles @LiteraryinLawrence Thanks! The real issue is you have to go through the footnotes to get a lot of the meaning of expressions and names on the text. Anyway, this was my "I am bored but don't feel like scrolling on my phone at the doctor's office book" 8mo

The magic of the series rubbed off. The world building is a great as ever but the very slow pacing and pointless melancholy of the characters and setting just didn‘t work for me. The writing of course, is great and the audiobook narrator excellent, but it doesn‘t save the book for me.

The audiobook was not my speed. I had to bail out after the first couple of chapters because the protagonist sounds the same killing a rapist and consoling a girl that is a victim of domestic violence. If you are totally clueless this book might do. If you are already a responsible adult and have some modicum of manners and self-awareness it will teach you nothing new. An example is the advice not to take and/or post on line pictures of children without the parents permission. I would have thought unless you are a total weird scum bag you would never do this. I was hoping for more useful information for nice travelers that want to do better.

I was ready to love the story, but the "trying to kill myself and all this people keep interrupting'" gag went on too long for me.( Also, not to be a downer, but suicide is too serious an issue for this kind of treatment in my opinion) Of course the neatly tied happy ending works for me, because I am a romance fan but I imagine some people might find it too sugary.Still, the Ove character is one of my favorite guys in recent books so it is a pick

Great book. The audiobook narrator was not too much to my taste so I ended up reading a hardcover from the library. The novel has some exciting action, and some thrills, but a lot of the book is slow paced and deals with the English political history of the republic and of the restauration of the monarchy in England. American history of the period is explored in less detail but I still enjoyed it.

I dragged myself to finish this book but I should have bailed. The problem is that the set up is so great and mysterious that there is no good way to resolve it. If you like ambiguous non endings tinged with melancholy you are the audience for this trilogy. I, unfortunately, am not.

I am bailing out on this book. Rayburn is one of my favorite authors and the narrators are great but somehow this book is neither corky and funny enough, which would make it interesting, nor a dark and scary thriller, which would make it exciting. Not too good. The language and ironic look at Mexican society is great but the ghoulish images and sexualization of little girls at the end is disturbing and seems to have no purpose but to shock. The end is not convincing and the portrayal of the wife in the story is shallow and follows the stereotype of “women can‘t be fathomed “ also, according to the wife, Mexican ladies prefer men that can hurt them. Disappointing

Great creepy ghost story. The narrator is very good so I recommend the audiobook highly. The next book in the story is the suffering and it is only a so-so for me (it also has a different narrator) the main reason is in the girl from the well the ghost is the narrator and she‘s interesting and in the next book the teenage boy is the narrator and it is hard to make a teenager interesting to anyone but another teen.

Great adventure fantasy. The different POV chapters from different characters got a bit old for me after a while but I usually don't enjoy switches in POV in a story. Even with that and seeing who the traitor is almost from the beginning there were plenty of thrills and surprises to delight a reader. I enjoyed the meditations about stories
