Kafka on the Shore | Haruki Murakami
post image
Pickpick

This book functions in the extremities appealing in a unique way to every individual. While reading, you might find yourself absorbed in a reverie leaving you astray. But once started, you will be reading more and more because simply you cannot stop. Like every other masterpiece, it has its highs and lows cloaked by a deeper purpose treasured within the string of words. In a nutshell, a must read for all.

Rating: 5/5 🌟

Jack-Cade I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. This book was my introduction to Murakami, who I believe deserves the Nobel in Literature. This, along with 1Q84 are two of my favorites. 7y
bookandcorner This was first Murakami too. His writing style is what made me fall in love with this book. I am hoping to read 1Q84 next year. 7y

Chronicle of a Death Foretold | Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Pickpick

3.5/5🌟
A sense of amazement struck me when within a few pages Santiago was murdered by the Vicero brothers who were seeking vengeance for the honour of their sister. Quite opposed to a murder fiction where the murderer is to be identified throughout the book, this story was about the subjective interpolation of the murder rather than the objective event.
Definitely a must read if you want to find the truth behind a death so foretold.

Jack-Cade Here is an instance of an author truly deserving of the Nobel. One Hundred Years of Solitude; The Autumn of the Patriarch; Love in the Time of Cholera, all of which I have read. I have not read this one but would like to hear from those who have. I placed it on my To Read list (along with 25-30 others). Regards, 7y
bookandcorner I have read Love in the Time of Cholera and absolutely adored the book. This one came out as a surprise to me as I was stunned by the intricacies in the plotline. Because of the word limit I couldn't write more about it in the caption. If you want to read you can check my review. I would love to know your thoughts. 7y

A Bend in the River | V.S. Naipaul
post image
Pickpick

One of the masterpieces of all times, Naipaul offers to present his perspective of a post colonialism as he charts out the extremely complex journey of "becoming" undertaken by the Central Africa after the departure of colonial forces. Salim's initiative to acquire a shop in the interiors of the city gives a platform to the writer to reflect upon the phenomena of social, historical and individual evolution.

Jack-Cade "The world is what it is; men who are nothing, who allow themselves to become nothing, have no place in it." That's a pretty chilling quote right out of the gates if memory serves me right. I believe this is one of Naipaul's finest novels and enjoyed it immensely. One would be highly remiss to wander through life without appreciating the mastery of Naipaul's literary gifts. 7y

Jack-Cade I enjoyed this book very much. I appreciate there are those who find Rand's objectivism difficult to swallow, but I have also found that many who object have never read her books, let alone know how to pronounce her first name. Atlas Shrugged remains one of my all time favorites. Regards, 7y
bookandcorner I so agree with you on this. This is one of the few books which kept me hooked till the end. However, I couldn't go around writing the review so I am planning to re-read it next year. 7y
