I wonder what The Hobbit would have been like if J.R.R. Tolkien had written it in the same style as The Lord of the Rings? 🤔🧐

A wonderful adventure!!!
This book was hard for me to get through. I started the audiobook version of this made it more bearable. I just am not a fan of Tolkien‘s writing style.
As I do every year around this time I read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Today my little reading buddy, Colby decided to curl up on the blanket over my legs. He makes a great heater when cozying up for a nice read. #dogsofLitsy
Ignore the dates for the readathon, but I'm also planning on doing this one next year.

Every year at Thanksgiving I like to think about the books/authors I'm particularly thankful for! Because really, books have been one of the biggest comforts, supports, and joys in my life! 💕📚💕
Today I'm thinking about Tolkien and the glorious worlds he created, mostly because of how much I loved the Rings of Power show! The Hobbit was the first fantasy book that I read and fell in love with, and I'm super thankful for that, and for Tolkien!
I make my son a Christmas ornament every year, but last year he requested Bilbo Baggins because he read The Hobbit. It took me so long to decide how to do it, that I didn't get it done. I set the project aside and picked it up yesterday. I have all the pieces cut and packed so I can stitch him up on our drive to Tennessee for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see how he turns out!

I do love this book. And Andy Serkis is simply the best.
I was first introduced to it when my aunt bought an illustrated copy from The Little Bookroom. Beatrix was equally bewitched. She has insisted on proceeding straight to The Lord of the Rings against my better judgment - too scary (the Black Riders terrify me) and too complex. But I could not resist. Trialling it as family audiobook with Polly and will see how it goes.
I love this book. Not just for itself but also for the journey it began...

Did I need more copies of the Hobbit or LOTR...no!!
Did I buy more at the book sale anyways...yes!! They are my favorite books (especially the Hobbit) after all.
Kind of bummed that the matching edition of The Fellowship was missing it's cover so I didn't end up with a full set but that's a used book sale for you.

If you are a fan of Tolkien and The Hobbit, you're not alone! It's such a wonderful classic fantasy story that can be enjoyed by people of all ages!
But! It is a book that has been challenged/banned in the past! 😮 In fact, in 2001, a Christian extremist group burned copies of The Hobbit and other books by Tolkien because they felt the books contained witchcraft and satanic themes!
1. Mysteries are like Mac and cheese in book (and TV) form.
2. But…I will reread Tolkien for comfort.

I can‘t believe that I had never read this until now. What a fun, goofy romp. I‘d love to write more about it, but my brain is mush from running the gauntlet of prep week/orientations at preschool, so I‘ll just say it lived up to the hype, is better than the movies, and I liked the Andy Serkis audiobook.
Picture is the headboard we‘ve been working on this summer, almost done. It will always make me think of the Misty Mountains!
“loved this book was one of my favorites I found it very interesting how the main characters did not defeat Smaug and instead Smaug was defeated by a nearby towns guards by hitting his weak spot with an arrow which sparked an argument between the main characters and everyone else who wanted a piece of Smaug's treasure horde
Y‘all, Gandalf the wizard frantically doing a headcount of the dwarves as they are fleeing goblins, briefly losing Kili and Fili before realizing that they are right in front of him has such teacher energy. I relate 😂
Had fun listening on and off throughout the day, now enjoying lap cuddles from a sleepy pupper ❤️

Finally getting around to giving Tolkien another try. I bounced off LOTR in middle school and have been meaning to try again as an adult. It is my middle nibling‘s current read aloud, and apparently she is loving it. I can‘t think of a better reason to try again! I just listened to the first bit and found it very cozy and fun. Posting a pic of my prairie garden blooming, because apparently Bilbo is very fond of flowers, like myself.
Starting this one tomorrow morning.
I really enjoyed this prequel to LOTR, I actually prefer The Hobbit as I like Bilbo more than Frodo. I loved the story and how Smaug spoke to Bilbo. Overall really great!
This was a re-read for me but I decided to listen to it for our road trip to Colorado. I still had fun listening to it. I loved the dwarves and I loved Bilbo's growth. What I loved best was listening to how the narrator interpreted the songs. But I must admit that there were many parts that I found myself drifting off.

#AwesomeApril I completed The Hobbit for the readathon. This is the third time I‘ve read it but the last time was over 20 years ago and I‘d never seen the film(s) so there was a lot I‘d forgotten. Lovely story and unlike many readers, I really love the songs! I read ‘em out loud to best appreciate them. 🐉
FYI. Sounds legit. (I was born in 1971 but I‘m sure there‘s room for me to identify as the Hobbit Generation. )
Listened to the audiobook version of this one. Quite enjoyable; very well done. I‘ve only seen the old cartoon movie of this story so only vaguely remembered it. I‘ve read the Lord of the Rings series and was interesting trying the audio version, so thought I‘d give this a try. Glad I did!

This is part of my tiny collection. I forgot about some of my items and also this picture had to be cropped for Litsy.
This month, I'm reading the entire #lordoftherings series for the first time. Being a fan of the films for most of my life, I have only ever read The Hobbit. It's so exciting to finally read the original material that's been such an important part of my life! #jrrtolkien #middleearth #thehobbit
Ngl I laughed pretty hard at this

Day 186.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book, as i tend to read non-fiction. I was hooked from the beginning.
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien is one of the most influential fantasy novels ever written. Read my review here.

Some reading for school & some reading just for fun (plus a little homemade cocoa to warm up during the storm). I love this time of year 📚❄☃️
I enjoyed this much more than I expected. I've tried reading LOTR before and did not like it at all so I wasn't interested in the Hobbit, but it was my bookclub's pick for the month so I gave it a shot. The audiobook read by Andy Serkis definitely helped. He did an amazing job bringing the characters and story to life.

Love this cover! Even though the previous owner must have used it as a coaster…. 😢
Such a charming adventure tale.
I can very much relate to Bilbo Baggins who, throughout the adventure and while discovering his strengths and generally being awesome, really just missed his quiet, comfortable, little home with the kettle singing on the stove and a full pantry. I get it, Bilbo.
