There were some really high moments, but overall it was slow and uninteresting. The main problem is there are too many main characters, which made it much longer than it needed to be. That said, there are some pretty cool scenes and I‘m glad I read it.

This book is truly terrible. I do not understand the hype. Half the sentences don‘t make sense. The characters are virtually indistinguishable from one another and are also completely unlikable. I feel like I‘m dumber for having read this.

This book was remarkably heartwarming and funny. It was such a joy to read. I would describe it as Austen-esque with a dose of realism. I really dug it.

Dracula | Bram Stoker

Bram Stoker did an awesome job giving each character a unique and distinct voice. You can tell who is narrating just by tone and language. The book is creepy at parts, even by today‘s standards, but it didn‘t age well overall. It‘s not a bad read, but it‘s a very slow read. 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is mostly tedious and repetitive. It‘s very slow. There are supposed to be surprise reveals, but they are predictable. All that said, there are a few laugh out loud moments, and that saves it from being a complete waste of time. 3 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the craziest books I have ever read, but I mean that in the best way possible. Though no character is completely likable, there is a clear protagonist and antagonist, and it is so fun to watch them play off one another. This was a heck of a ride and one of the best books I‘ve read in a long time.

The perfection that is this series continues with this book. I have no complaints or gripes. Gabaldon‘s research and attention to detail are flawless. I am so excited for the next book to come out.

All of the characters in this book are completely despicable except for Ethan. However, Ethan serves literally no purpose except an excuse for the main character‘s bad behavior. That said, it is surprisingly fun to read. Three out of five stars.

This is the best book in the series thus far. All the characters continue to get more interesting, and the new villains are so fun to read. I am eager to continue this series.

After the disappointment of Livia alone, The Night Trade really makes up for it. Reading about Dox is always a pleasure, and it was nice to see him team up with Livia. I love that they are not perfect, but instead make mistakes and false assumptions, jumping into situations without fully thinking about them. Livia and Dox balanced each other out well.

This book is absolute garbage. The writing is lazy, and there is so much sleaze. In all fairness, the main plot is okay, but it takes about 75% of the book to get there. 2 out of 5 stars.

The plot of this novel is great, but there was a lack of attention to detail that was extremely distracting. Overuse of the phrase “he panted,” the moon being out but it was pouring snow in the same scene, middle and high school kids being at recess...these are a few examples. It ruined an otherwise great novel. 3 out of 5 stars.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but this was not a fun read for me. It took me forever, because I found the comics to be so tedious and so dated. They have definitely not held up well over time. There were a couple here and there that were cute or funny, but, for the most part, no.

Two out of five stars.

All in all, a great read, though I felt the ending was a bit too neat for most of the characters. I‘m happy with where Eisler leaves John, though, and I would be okay if this is the last John Rain book. I like the idea of him happy and living his life. 4 out of 5 stars.

...in that narrow, purgatorial space, a feeling crept in, a kind of mourning for my younger self and all his terrible choices, and a wish that I could somehow tell him what I knew now and help him for both our sakes to get it right, and a grief that such a thing was impossible, the young man‘s blindness irreparable, his mistakes immutable, the consequences irreversible.—Barry Eisler, The Killer Collective

For me, this was an extremely slow, painfully boring read. The concept was a stretch at best, and though I feel like it may have had some sort of personal significance to Stephen King, as a reader, it was not pleasant. I found it to be uninteresting, kind of gross, and all around a waste of time. I do not recommend this at all.

Two out of five stars.

This is probably my favorite book the series so far. Gabaldon throws us into the midst of the American Revolution and effectively describes the desperation, fear, fierce pride, and sheer determination of survival. As always, her research is impeccable. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is more of a sequel to Graveyard of Memories than a continuation of the John Rain series. While I still find young John endearing, this book felt forced, and the ending was anticlimactic. That said, it was still a fun read. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Though I wasn‘t thrilled when I found out this is a prequel, this is easily my favorite John Rain book so far. It was also the first Kindle in Motion book I‘ve ever read, and the art and animation were gorgeous and really added to the story. This is easily a 5 out of 5 stars book, no question.

I'm happy to report that, even after the disappointment of the last Eisler novel I read, this 1 did not fail to please. I'm glad I read the first 2 Ben Treven books so that I would know what was going on in that storyline, b/c it was important to the continuation of John Rain's story. It was a really good book, & I'm glad John, Dox, Larison, & Ben could keep from killing each other. They were certainly an interesting combination. 4 out of 5 stars.

This book felt hurried. It's not really any shorter than his other books, but there are lots of distracting & careless punctuation errors. Despite that, this was enjoyable. I really liked Paula's character but was disappointed over how she turned out. Hort has a speech at the end about what the American government is, and it feels particularly accurate now, though this book was published in the pre-Trump presidency world. 4 out of 5 stars.

Book 2 of the Leine Basso series was better than the 1st. There were some minor editing issues & a couple of minor consistency issues as well, but nothing major. The character development was decent, & the writing was overall really good. There was the predictability factor, but Berkom did have a couple twists at the end that I didn't completely foresee. There was even a loose end that I hope is returned to at some point. Four out of five stars.

There's no plot to this book, so if your kid needs an actual story, this is not the book to read. However, for kids like my three-year-old who are obsessed with animals and dinosaurs and eggs, this is perfect. It's informative and cute and short, which makes it a good bedtime read after a long day. I'll definitely show it to my son. Four out of five stars.

I've been on kind of a thriller kick lately, so I decided to give this one a shot. Cool cover, right? The description seemed positive, too. That is literally the end of anything nice I have to say about this book. Character development? Terrible. Plot? Awful. Full of every thriller cliche you can imagine. I was not impressed, & it is extremely doubtful that I will ever read book 2. 2 out of 5 stars.

The first 2/3 of this book was absolutely miserable for me. I didn't like Ben. I didn't like Alex. I really didn't like Sarah. The plot was predictable up to the end. I think it was supposed to be a surprise, but it wasn't. This was really almost a 2 star review, but Ben became more likable by the end, & that's the only thing that saved it. Hopefully, Book 2 will be better. 3 out of 5 stars.

Dox was the the main thing that saved this book for me. His sense of humor, the way he handled himself under unimaginable pressure...it was perfect for his character. Mopey John was no fun to read. He made his choices but couldn't seem to deal with the repercussions of them, and that was disappointing. I personally thought the stunt Delilah pulled in the last book was unforgivable, so why is he still hanging around with her? 3 out of 5 stars.

The biggest issue I had was there were too many characters who were unnecessary to the plot. I will say that what King did very well was create an absolutely terrifying atmosphere. The fact that you don't really know what is going on for most of the book makes it even more frightening. This not a horror book by any means, but it has the feel of one. That's really all I have to say that's positive. I don't recommend it. It's 2 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the most heartwarming books I have ever read. It's a little bittersweet for me, b/c I finished it in the ER with my 3yo, who broke his leg today. I cried over the book & over my son & over every lost kid who hopefully will 1 day find a home & their place in society. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review is some editing issues, but that doesn‘t keep me from encouraging everyone to read it! 4 out of 5 stars.

I was disappointed in the last John Rain novel, but I did say I felt that it was building up to something fantastic. I am so happy I was right! Book 5 has been the best in the series so far. At first, I thought the pace was way too fast, but Eisler masterfully reined it back in about 2/3 of the way through, & so many open storylines closed just like that, with my jaw hanging open. I'm very excited to move on to move on to Book 6. 5 out of 5 stars.
