An Echo in the Bone
An Echo in the Bone | Diana Gabaldon
Jamie Fraser, former Jacobite and reluctant rebel, is already certain of three things about the American rebellion - The Americans will win, fighting on the side of victory is no guarantee of survival, and hed rather die than have to face his illegitimate son - a young lieutenant in the British army - across the barrel of a gun. Claire Randall knows that the Americans will win, too, but not what the ultimate price may be. That price wont include Jamies life or his happiness, though- not if she has anything to say about it. Meanwhile, in the relative safety of the twentieth century, Jamie and Claires daughter, Brianna, and her husband, Roger MacKenzie, have resettled in a historic Scottish home where, across a chasm of two centuries, the drama of Briannas parents story comes to life through Claires letters. The pages reveal Claires love for battle-scarred Jamie Fraser and their flight from North Carolina to the high seas, where they encounter privateers and ocean battles - as Brianna and Roger search for clues not only to Claires fate but to their own. Because the future of the MacKenzie family in the Highlands is intimately entwined with life and death in war-torn colonialAmerica.

I don't read books over 500 pages if I don't really like them so it's tough to choose a favorite! 😆 But I do particularly love the seventh installment of the Outlander series. My best friend is currently reading the third book and I hope she continues because I can't wait to discuss this one with her.

We got home from Vietnam late last night, and my day has been spent with doing laundry and other chores you have to do when you return from holiday. I did find some time to finish this (finally!), also. Travelling around Vietnam didn‘t leave me much time or energy to read, but as always, it was a pleasure to spend my holiday with Claire and Jamie. While the Outlander books are no way near perfect, they are entertaining and perfect beach reads, imo

TrishB Hope you had a good holiday eventually!! 5mo

After a few days of fever and stomach issues, and having to move hotel because of rats (YES RATS!!!! 🐀🐀🐀), we finally had a day at the beach near Hoi An today. And, of course, I got a sunburn 😅 my travelling karma is really bad at the moment, but I‘m still loving Vietnam 🙌

This is probably my favorite book the series so far. Gabaldon throws us into the midst of the American Revolution and effectively describes the desperation, fear, fierce pride, and sheer determination of survival. As always, her research is impeccable. 5 out of 5 stars.

⭐️⭐️💫This pains me to write. The portions of this book that had Jamie, Claire, Roger and Brianna were a good 4-5 stars. The rest though (especially the first half of book)...sigh. I just couldn‘t handle it. Why? Just why? Unnecessary, I think. And way too much. I felt like this was unpolished too. • I have heard great things about book 8 (and I‘m obviously very invested lol) so I‘ll continue on. I want to read their whole story no matter what.

suvata Sad to hear 9mo
inthegreensandblues I've read this series a few times and can say that it took me time to warm up to William, but eventually I did. It was the same with Brianna though. I'm totally invested in this family. And I love Jemmy POV! ❤️ Can't wait for Bees. 9mo

I have been slowly re-reading the books in this series since last year- to prepare for the tv show and hopefully the newest book (Diana Gabaldon has said it would be published this year). As with all the books in this series there are a lot of plots that I didn‘t care about (William‘s regiment) but a lot happens and I am looking forward to the story continuing.

baes I started this today and I‘m having a tough time with the whole William story. Will I regret it (at least with this book and next book) if I skip over those chapters? 9mo
ReadingMeagan @baes Maybe skim them if you can. He sticks around. And eventually interacts with more characters. Good luck! 9mo

I DID IT! I FINISHED THE BEAST!

Aside from book 1, this is either my second or third favourite of the series. So much happens! So damn much! I'm immense trash for both timelines honestly which doesn't tend to happen a lot. I also love historical fictions where most of the problems would be solved with the intention of the telephone and DMs. It amuses me endlessly...and that is basically Outlander as a whole

I have a lot of feelings about this series that I have been drafting into a behemoth blog but this one has a few things that stand out for me. The first two books held me rapt and had so much magic for me but then that slowly flickered and died. I loved the ridge story but I didn't connect to the characters and this book really brought back some of those good feelings, especially toward the end. Excited for the next one.

Oh Davina Porter....I‘ve missed your voice. I‘ve taken a lot of weeks off from Outlander after ripping through so many books. How I‘ve missed these people.

Birdsong28 I've been listening to Middlemarch (35 hours) and now I'm on one about Marilyn Monroe (only 5 hours) but I am itching to start the second Outlander but I needed a break from the first one as it's so long and I knew I wouldn't appreciate the next one if I went straight into it. Her voice is so amazing, I actually zone out more with her as it's so calming 😂📚📖 2y

Ok I tried 😑I really did. And anyone who knows me at all knows I ADORE this book series, yet this one just kind of fell flat in my opinion. It started slow, then STAYED slow and took 700 pages (out of 814 no less!) to become even remotely interesting. The rest in the series were WAY better. Maybe this one just wasn‘t for me 😐

It took me forever to get into the 7th book of the Outlander series. I didn't really care for the passages that focused on William at first, and it was hard to keep track of everyone and their storylines (which I felt until the end of the book). But- holy MOLY did the ending keep me engaged. Really a great way to have all the different storylines come together, and I cannot WAIT to read the next one.
