Written in My Own Heart's Blood
Written in My Own Heart's Blood | Diana Gabaldon
In her now classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon told the story of Claire Randall, an English ex-combat nurse who walks through a stone circle in the Scottish Highlands in 1946, and disappears... into 1743. The story unfolded from there in seven bestselling novels, and CNN has called it a grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]. Now the story continues in Written in My Own Hearts Blood.1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washingtons troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is, and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamies wife, Claire, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces. The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in twentieth-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her familys secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy . . . never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.Written in My Own Hearts Blood is the brilliant next chapter in a masterpiece of the imagination unlike any other.

So, some things don‘t change. 🫠 I still can‘t write reviews timely. But at least I got through it. I am in new territory. It was still emotional, a roller coaster and a story of growth with some heartbreaks and triggers (🔥😭😞) but some positive stuff, too. I am excited about the next book, but then I think I will actually be done?? 🥹🤔🙏🏻 #recentlyread

I collect the Outlander books as I see them in the library sales because I want to enjoy the series but just couldn't get into the first book the last time I tried. Anyone else? I don't want to watch the show until I've read the books.

Eggs Perfect 😍 ❤️ 5mo

I have finished it.
Of course, this book like the others, ended by leaving me wanting more. This book had me falling in love with Ian and Rachel, and crying over the loss too much.

#20in4 Goals
1. Finish Written in My Own Heart's Blood
2. Start and Finish Blackbird
3. Go with my gut in choosing the Sager or Jayatissa to start next

My kids and I are alone this weekend as my husband is traveling with family for a bachelor party. The amount of reading I get done will heavily weigh on the attitudes of my children.
@Andrew65

Andrew65 Best of luck with the reading and the attitudes of your children. 2y

I'm savoring this series while summer lasts. ☀️ I hope everyone is staying cool and safe. Covid just got through my door and I'm hoping the one person can keep it to themselves. I'm vaxed and boosted to the max, so cross your fingers.

Meaning a person or thing at the center of attention. It stems from both Greek and Latin, literally a dog's tail. Which brings me to the expression, the tail wagging the dog, which means an important person is controlled by lesser important person.

What are some other dog centric words or phrases?

Susanita Their bark is worse than their bite. 2y
mandarchy @Susanita a dog that barks is afraid, a dog that bites is not! 🐕 woof 2y
Ruthiella “Hair of the dog that bit you“ for a hangover cure. 2y
See All 6 Comments
mandarchy @Ruthiella a quick Google search reveals that this expression stems from the belief that by placing the hair of the dog that bit you into the bite wound, could/did prevent rabies (16thC). 2y
BookNAround Barking up the wrong tree. 2y
mandarchy @BookNAround who would have guessed that this expression probably comes from Tennessee, it's less than 200 years old and it may come from Davey Crocket himself. 2y

Book #8 in the series. There is so much going on in this book. 1776/1777 in the American colonies is a turbulent place, and 1980‘s isn‘t all that easy either. But the adventures continue for the Fraser clan and their acquaintances.

Whew! Thank goodness I got my wires crossed and accidentally checked this book out from the library before the newest of the series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. After realizing it's been well over SIX (!!!) years since last reading it, this was a much needed refresher - so much happens and my brain really had lost a lot of the detail. Always a pleasure to spend time with Jamie, and the Brianna/Roger story line in this one is fascinating.

The promised #bookhaul post from the wonderful 💎 of a store called Around Again & Again Books. I felt it was fate that this 📖, which I needed for my collection, was available. The Shakespeare edition is stunning, and the new (to me) series is prehistoric fiction 🎉🥰💙. My husband picked the Star Wars Encyclopedia. 🥲 #tbr #bookworm #usedbooks #keepbooksalive

Those moments when your memorization of Hamilton comes in handy while reading historical fiction. You wonder why Charles Lee never attained renown as a Revolutionary figure, Claire? Because he shits the bed at the battle of Monmouth! Haha

I had such a nice time hanging with my grandparents this weekend! Now I'm at the airport and headed back to the city. Just started a re-read, the last chunky addition to the Outlander series. It feels like it's been a long time since I first read it, I hope I don't get lost getting back into the swing of what's going on ?

Excited to "visit" my forever book boyfriend, Jamie Fraser ❤️

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks That‘s so awesome! All of my grandparents are gone and I wish I had spent more time with them ❤️ 3y

Starting my year off by heading back I to 1778 in this 800+page book. Love like Jamie & Claire ♥️

The book was good. To say i really liked it is hard to sustain with a 1000+ page book, but there were parts I really liked. Roger and Bree‘s story pulled me in immediately and kept me interested. There were parts that focused on Lord John Grey and his son William – much of which I didn‘t find as interesting, though some parts were. Cont in comments..

LibraryCin Near the start of the book, I didn‘t even find Jamie and Claire as intriguing, but their story got better as the book went along. I do like reading about the medical stuff, though having had a couple of eye surgeries myself, that bit with Claire fixing John‘s eye was pretty graphic! 3y

Jamie and Claire face enormous challenges (don‘t they always?) in this missive and triumph repeatedly at each hurdle. Part of me feels that this has ended in such a way to be the final book in this outstanding series, but I want more... and indeed there will be.
