*Ignore hubby‘s leg* Twins, Bel and Rose, are taken in by their rich grandmother after losing their mom. Grandmother ships them off to boarding school where they try to fit in. Bel starts running with a wild crowd and gets involved in a school prank that causes a lot of other things to happen. I enjoyed this one but lots of trigger warnings (you can find them in other reviews, I consider them spoilers).

Picking up my hold at the library and the book smells like cigarettes 🤮@bookmarktavern #SundayFunday

HettyG People who say audio books "don't count" ? 1w
TheKidUpstairs Ugh, yes! I hate when the books are returned just reeking of cigarettes or, because I'm in Canada, weed. I try my best to air them out before they go back into circulation. And we've charged damaged book fees on some that are just too infused to go back on the shelves. 1w
BookmarkTavern I had an uncle whose whole house smelled like cigars. Even decades later, books I inherited from him still smell like cigar smoke. Thanks for sharing! 1w

A Very Bad Thing | J T Ellison
post image

A famous author is on tour and during her last stop a stranger stands up and walks out. The author sees the man leave and suddenly faints. She did something bad when she was younger and now the people in her life could find out the truth.
I enjoyed this one, even though I figured out the twist.

This biography of Tiger Woods was interesting. He is so private and I always wondered what his fellow PGA players thought about him. I enjoyed reading about the behind the scenes relationships with his caddies, Butch, Nike, and his family. You also see just how tough he is as he trained with Navy Seals and was interested in joining the military at one time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've only been to Vegas once, back in the 80's, but these stories are intriguing and interesting. How did the little wedding chapel get its start? Want to know the back story about the major developers in Vegas? What about the Elvis impersonator who left Texas in a pink Cadillac to make major bank marrying folks on the strip? A fun read about the stories that make Vegas...well, Vegas.

This will be published in May - Eszter goes on a vacation to a remote island in Mexico and dies. Her partner, Abby, was supposed to meet her a few days later at the island and doesn‘t understand what happened to her girlfriend. She gets to the island and begins asking questions, which is a bad idea. Lots of trigger warnings, but it was overall a good read.

A couple goes into the crime lab and holds people hostage because the police failed to find their missing daughter several years ago. They threaten to burn critical evidence of major crimes until the police find their daughter. This is a quick thriller that was really good. Not sure that this book merits the Reese‘s Book Club status. I mean, you only pick 12 books a year and it should be a stand-out. A jawdropper. Different than what you‘ve read before. This is a Scooby Doo episode. Well, without the dog and the villain dressed as a ghost. It wasn‘t bad, but isn‘t one that is a stand out.

Such a sad book from someone who really had everything until her dad died. The beginning of the book felt a little manic, probably because it was Lisa Marie‘s real words. It was kinda all over the place and made more sense when Riley became more of the narrative. I was surprised about her relationship with Michael Jackson. I really thought at the time that it some weird PR stunt. Overall enjoyed the book but man, what a tragedy.

I see why this book had so much buzz and hit a lot of favorites list in 2024. If you pick it up and think it‘s too long for me (almost 600 pages) just know that it‘s a fast read with short chapters and worth every.single.page. It‘s a mystery, but so much more. It‘s really about friendship that turns into family and what you will do to help someone you love.

Tamra I got it on Kindle which isn‘t my favorite format, so this is good to know! 3mo
AmyG Such a wonderful book. Agree….it‘s big but I flew through it. 3mo

What if the smartest high schoolers in the world don't go to college but get sold to the highest bidder? Their parents get millions of dollars and the teenager gets groomed to be the next "X". This makes for a WEIRD book, as Palahniuk tends to write, as you really don't know what's going to happen when you turn the page. I also didn't "get" a lot of the book, as I don't take LSD & it will also win an award for writing the word "avocado" A LOT

Not going to hit my reading goal this year. Not even close. My father in law passed away in May on Mother‘s Day. I had no idea what I was reading until I was about a 1/3 of the way in. There were a lot of characters and didn‘t really understand the premise of this novel. I thought I was reading a thriller, but it‘s more sci-fi which isn‘t my favorite genre. Basically, a fog destroys the world and a bunch of scientists bunkered down on an island and a few were considered “elders” to help the rest of the village.
