A Book of Night Women | Marlon James
post image

I'm almost done with Marlon James's A Book Of Night Women. It's so brutal yet it's so interesting that I have hardly been able to stop thinking about it.

And I was listening to this wonderful 10th anniversary special cast audio book of The American Gods. It was almost like watching a drama unfold in my head. :')
Here I'm signing off for the night after clocking in 9 hours of reading on #day1 of the #24in48 #readathon.
Night!✨

Hour Six: Challenge #1 (Snap A Shelfie)

Here's a shelfie and a semi-selfie. ;)

This shelf is the quintessential bedside shelf with all the brand new books and long forgotten TBRs.

I'm nearly clocking in on four hours. I'm so tired and sleepy yet I cannot stop reading. The book is soo brutal, so though provoking and interesting, I'm loving it so far.

It's past midnight here in India, and the weekend is here. And that means #24in48 #readathon has officially started at least according to IST. But I'm gonna follow the official clock and start from tomorrow morning. Wish me luck guys. And all the very best to everyone participating out there. I'm both scared and excited at the same time!

Final Girls | Riley Sager

I wish there was an option between "Pick" and "So-So" on Litsy.

Final Girls | Riley Sager

Even before Pine Cottage, I never liked to watch scary movies because of the fake blood, the rubber knives, the characters who made decisions so stupid I guiltily thought they deserved to die. Only, what happened to us wasn't a movie. It was real life. Our lives. The blood wasn't fake. The knives were steel and nightmare-sharp. And those who died definitely didn't deserve it. But somehow we screamed louder, ran faster, fought harder. We survived.”

“We were, for whatever reason, the lucky ones who survived when no one else had. Pretty girls covered in blood. As such, we were each in turn treated like something rare and exotic. A beautiful bird that spreads its bright wings only once a decade. Or that flower that stinks like rotting meat whenever it deigns to bloom.”

Pickpick

It takes the trope of the blood-soaked sole survivor, that survives the massacre at the end of a horror movie, the one left to tell the story. All of the required components are there-a survivor making questionable choices, a blank space with no memories, the police casting doubts and most importantly, the hair-raising feeling that things aren‘t at all what they seem.

rareads OMG they are so pretty. 😍 I have tried multiple times but could never finish the Count of Monte Cristo. :p 7y
aquanin Years ago I read MC firstly in simplified version. I loved it. Then I bought the thick copy one, I forgot how many pages. Then my friend borrowed it and didn't return it. So a few days ago I bought the wordsworth edition, the black one, and has around 900pages I think. The print is veeery small too haha. I hope I can finish it someday. I watched the movie but didn't really like it 7y
rareads Ah yes same for me. I had quite loved the abridged version but my love and enthusiasm kinda vanished when I started reading the unabridged book. X'D I hope you don't spoil your eyes while reading it :p 7y

Breezy, funny and romantic- a mix perfect for a summer read.
This is the story of a handsome and popular pop sensation, coming to the picturesque English retreat, for a quiet summer to deal with his demons, and a very talented girl who sacrifices her dreams to help her family out of their financial ordeal. It has its fair share of toe-curling romance, conflicts and an adorable bunch of supporting characters.

Today's International Yoga Day.

Have you all worked out today? I sure did, the dumbbell being the heaviest one from my bookshelf. ?

So guys, tell me which is the heaviest bookish "dumbbell" in your collection?
How long did it take you to complete it? I won't mind if you haven't yet. ?

Pickpick

It is one of those rare books that doesn't #romanticize the concept of teenage #depression and #suicide. It chronicles the emotional wounds that has scarred a family just because they stand out in the crowd. It touches upon deep-seated #racism, unfulfilled dreams, excessive parental #expectations and other things left unsaid that has the capability of destroying bonds way beyond our #imagination.

Baaz | Anuja Chauhan
post image

Baaz, stands out from her usual books in one important aspect. Indian readers are starved of books told from a hero's point of view- to delve into the mind of a man and to be privy to his thoughts and actions. Anuja serves Baaz ke maaphik Ishaan Faujdar, like a delicacy to us, starved souls.

#Baaz has the usual #AnujaChauhan combination of a feisty & independent heroine, and a gorgeous hero. The beginning was filled with toe-curling passion and humour. To her credit, she handles all fight sequences with aplomb & it‘s absolutely clear the amount of research that has gone into the book. But my biggest problem lies with how the end was handled. One can see the end coming from a mile, but one does not ever expect it to pan out like that.
