A little preposterous with all of the twists, but gives an interesting look into what “evil” looks like in youth.

4.5⭐This story moves from one POV to another, giving their account of events centering around the death of a child at a school where the mother is a teacher. Each POV is a single chapter, so the chapters are rather long. Despite this…it still moves along quickly…it‘s repetitive without feeling repetitive since each POV is so different. Eventually, the whole story is unraveled…at the end, you‘ll get one last bombshell dropped...which is a stunner.

1. School started today. I only know that because all the parents have been running into our clinic demanding vaccine records and school physicals :)
2. Tagged. A dark, twisted slow burn.
Picked up my hold (The Block Party) from the library and figured since I was returning 3 books, I should grab 4 🥰🤓
Written in a very unusual way, super dark and very fast to read. It's something, better go in blind if you're interested.
Have a look at our podcast about it after you've read it: https://bit.ly/3qOjlbd
Not a whodunnit, because readers know off the bat, who killed a preschooler in a Japanese school, but the revelations of *why* is what really makes this book a page turner. A middle school teacher‘s child is murdered by two of her students. We get perspectives from each, plus the teacher and mother of one of the boys. Over the top, tragic, and cinematic. Is this a film? Seems like it could be! Good, not my type of read, but one to think about!
Wow, this was a doozy of a revenge thriller/horror. A teacher has lost her child and discovers some of her students are responsible. Throughout the book the truth unravels from multiple POVs and the ending made me gasp. The one flaw of the book is some repetitiveness as we hear the story from different characters but I still highly recommend this one. 4.5⭐️ CW in comments ⬇️
#bookspin pick complete!
I enjoyed this one pretty well. I liked how the chapters were from different characters. The writing drew me in and made it a quick and easy read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have enjoyed so much this author writing style and her unlikely characters.
I also enjoyed: Cheerful Weather for the Wedding; Crooked kingdom YES! Catwoman: Soulstealer: The Christmas Sisters: A Court of Thorns and Roses
This was good but not great. Loved the alternating narrative viewpoints and the twists and turns. Some of the plot machinations are pretty hard to swallow but overall a dark and satisfying tale of revenge. I look forward to watching the inevitable J-drama adaptation when it arrives on our shores via Netflix.

🌗This is the first time I use this term. I usually refer myself as “moody reader” but I never have used the term for a book.
🌗Moody book? Maybe a book that have changes in the tone of the plot or changes in the character dynamic? Am I correct? If so, then, I definitely like moody books.🤗
Thank you @EadieB 🥰
@TheSpineView
I like this author and her writing style. I know their stories can be slow, they are more character driven but with unlikely characters. As in Penance, we see revenge, morally questionable in their motives to justify their actions. I couldn‘t put it down. It was like a study of disturbed personalities caused for the presence of various factors. There social criticism. I can understand the mixed reviews but in my case I liked it. 4⭐️
🌟🌟🌟I love me some revenge tales and this one was dark and twisty, however since I couldn‘t connect or even like the characters much, it was hard to be invested in the outcome. The revenge was a doosey, it didn‘t exactly WOW me.
This was a wild read/book..
Didn‘t love it.

Started and finished this one yesterday which really helped for my #20in4 ( @Andrew65 ). I could not put this book down!! 😍 Confessions is a story of revenge. We know who the killers are, but even though we know, its suspenseful the whole way through. If you enjoy thrillers you'll love this one! @Jemmygem you were right, it was great! 😁📚
I also started the Martian audiobook yesterday and I'm almost done! 😍
#January2021
Wow, I don't really know what to say about this book other than I read it in January of 2021 and still think about it! So.... yeah, definitely a pick!

I can‘t get over how great this book is. I am 1/4 threw it and likely not sleeping until it is done. What a mind blowing twisting novel. That man I hope answers all the questions that I am coming up with. @michellelav you are going to LOVE this one.
Alert the media! I finished a book during the work week! 🙌🏼
But honestly how could I not? This is the quintessential revenge novel. It was twisted and shocking and just yummy delicious. The fact that it was written by a home economics teacher just makes it that much more brilliant. Totally 🦇💩. 👍🏼
This book is nuts.
A twisted thriller that unravels through multiple viewpoints. A teacher's young daughter is murdered by two of her students. Rather than seeking revenge herself, she sets in motion a series of events that allow each participant to further their own destruction by permitting them to act on their own worst instincts.
The writing style was unusual and while I appreciated it, it may not be for everyone.
Something unique in the thriller world.
The writing style is so unique for this book. I think I'm kinda digging it. 👍🏽
I had a good #BookspinBingo month! One book away from 4 bingos 😩. But three works and I read 15 books, 12 from my #TBR and both my #Bookspin and #Doublespin ! Thrilled with that! @TheAromaofBooks Bring on April!
My #MarvellousMarch wrap up: I exceeded my goal of 5 books and finished with 8 books read! With 2 on #audio. Thanks for the encouragement, @Andrew65 !
Wow! I listened to this all day, even did extra yard work to keep listening. Dark, twisty and with multiple unreliable points of you, it kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. Fantastic! #BookspinBingo #ReadHarder #MarvelousMarch @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65 #Booked2021 #translation @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage
#currentlisten for #ReadHarder #bookintranslation and #BookspinBingo . A teacher is talking to her middle school class about the death of her daughter and states that one of them is responsible; ominous right off the bat. I think this is going to be a strange one!
I love this one, so much so thatIam going to convince my husband to read it. I loved how there was a bunch of twists and turns .. Thank you again and again @Sleepswithbooks
So the quote: I have always “wanted“ to be a journal type of person and always envied people who did journal but it was never something that was “me“ .. Maybe one day
I have some thoughts on this. Like back and forth and it‘s just one of those I can‘t put into words my thoughts on this topic
@Sleepswithbooks
Started this one today ;) Thank you so much @Sleepswithbooks (thank you so much for your lovely gift of books :) I‘m so sorry I haven‘t properly thanked you. I‘ve been so out of it with the moving and stuff)
Oh my goodness, I just finished this and it‘s going to be on my top 5 list that I‘ve read this year.
This book wasn‘t at all what I expected, but I really enjoyed it. Every chapter told the story from from a different character‘s perspective and revealed a secret. A dark, fun, twisted read!
Secret confession: I love walking in cool rain, so tonight at dusk, I took a walk in a light storm (no lightning). I came across this beautiful fall garden!
Almost the last of #bloominglitsy @Eggs
I think you‘d like this too @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @Crazeedi 💖
A twisted revenge plot of a mother seeking justice. We know the killers; there's no mystery, no hiding. What unfolds is a complex and layered scheme that ruins many lives. Told from alternating prescriptives we get to see the motivations and inner workings of the mostly unredeemable characters. There are no winners in this story just losers. No redemption arc or moral high ground. Just evil doings and tradegy. It's all darkness.
@monalyisha was thinking about her #scarathlon2020 TBR and posed the question "What three creepy reads would you recommend?"
I would say:
? We Have Always Lived In the Castle
? Aura
? Confessions
#3books with one-word titles
I enjoyed all three of these, but Confessions is my favorite.
Super twisted! On the last day of term, a teacher sits her class down and tells them that two of them murdered her young daughter, and she's come up with her own revenge. Told in several sections, each written as if the speaker is addressing you directly, this dark thriller follows the aftermath of one confession and leads to many more.
A great thriller for #womenintranslationmonth
