Two bingos! #bookspinbingo There is a tie for my favorite book his month: Daisy Jones & The Six and True Biz. Honestly, this has been my favorite reading month so far. Most of these were hard to put down.

I‘ve finally realized that the 1619 project is not a straightforward read so I replaced it with a Hugo Award nominee. All other additional reads are outside the board.

@TheAromaofBooks

I read this book in one day just because I was ready for it to end. I was really disappointed because it was so hyped up and everyone loved it and I just didn‘t. I didn‘t like the format at all and there wasn‘t a plot. It just fell really flat for me.

ItsAngel This one just wasn‘t for me at all. 3w
NikkiKey94 @ItsAngel I‘m so glad I wasn‘t alone! I kept reading just because I try not to DNF books but this one came really close! 3w

Absolutely worth all the hype. I had to monitor when I picked this up to read because I couldn‘t put it back down. I loved how no one remembered an event the same way. I loved how personalities came through each time a moment was retold differently. All of it was so well done. I‘m excited to see the tv adaptation.

WOW… Another masterpiece by TJR! I have been in a reading rut lately but this book dragged me out of it. I really enjoyed the interview style of writing and the connections it forced me to make with the characters. This book was one that made me to feel exactly what the charceters were feeling and had me conflicted on who I was rooting for in the end. The story felt so real and alive. I was enthralled by the plot and couldn‘t put it down!

Set up like an interview, the book reads as a character‘s name and then their dialogue, no action description, quotes or parenthesis.

This shows the storytelling aspect from each different character in the band or related to the band, giving the reader different angles of the story and not letting them know which character is telling the truth.

Nute I haven‘t read any of her books yet, but she seems to be a popular author. I plan to start with a novella of hers. I‘m not sure why this book is calling louder than her other books. 3w

During this re-read, I realized that Camilla is as big a part of this story as Eliza is in Hamilton. They‘re the ones who made (a large part of) the story happen. Camila Morrone looks like she‘s just right for the part of Camila Dunne. So excited for the show! 💖

marleed I reread this book immediately upon finishing realizing the fate of the characters, and the book is really told in memoriam for her to her daughter. I‘m curious to see if the show will be told in real time where Camille might be a bit different than what the band remembers her to be when talking to her daughter. 1mo
AileenRR @marleed Ooh, that‘s something I hadn‘t considered 🤔 1mo
marleed @AileenRR my mother died many years ago when I was two so I have no direct memories of her. All the stories I heard had me convinced my mother was canonized a saint and people just weren‘t told! I went out of state to her alma mater for college (one of had to!) and while there met someone who finally told me a less than perfect story of her. I was thrilled and it made her more real than all the stories that came before it! 1mo

marleed So my second pass through this book made me think that if I was the daughter interviewing friends of my mother when she was alive, the stories would be most certainly tilted to my mother‘s favor. So no wonder everyone likes Camille best - she‘s been canonized! 1mo
AileenRR @marleed I love that you shared this point of view! And I‘m glad you got a more complex glimpse into who your mom was 😊 1mo

TJR does it again with this novel about a 1970s rock band‘s meteoric rise to stardom and infamous breakup. The voices in this book are so real I had to double-check that this is indeed a work of fiction. I simply fell in love with this band without hearing a single note of their music. The interview format of this really worked and TJR‘s ability to capture so many voices so well is a testament to her talent. Can‘t wait for the miniseries! 4⭐️

Wow..wow, i hated this book as much as i loved it. but i feel like that was the point of the book, the author wanted to take you on the highs and lows of the journey. there were parts of me that wanted billy dunne to mess up and be with daisy but i also admired him much more for the fact that he continued to stay faithful…i just expected more chaos even tho the whole book was chaos but i‘m a fan of how taylor wrote it and i think it was perfect

Book #7
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+
This is one of my very favorite books since I first read it a couple of years ago. I heard that the audiobook was great, too, so now here I am. The performances - not just reading - were amazing, and did what I didn't think was possible, by making the characters even more real than Reid had already succeeded in making them. ❤❤❤ But why aren't they real??? I would give up chocolate for a year, just for a copy of their album, Aurora.

Kris10H My husband was playing on the XBox while I was crocheting and listening to the book. After listening for a while, he says "what band is this?", thinking that it was a work of non-fiction. That, to me, is the sign of a good book. 3mo

I guess this is a sign. Honestly, I don‘t get the appeal of this one. I‘m 53% in, knew my hold was going to end and decided to listen to podcasts all day instead…

I‘m not a huge music person, but I really like TJR…

Any recommendations for other books about bands? This was supposed to be for #pop22

marleed Haha - I discovered TJR with this book and it spoke to me. I was convinced my sisters would have the same connection and practically forced them to each purchase their own copy. One bought at an airport in Ireland! But one sister disliked it so much she may have even considered severing our sisterly connections! I‘m very happy Litsy connections are fascinated when other Littens love what we pan! 3mo
Laughterhp @marleed I know! I love seeing people love and hating the same books on Litsy! And always nice finding people who agree with you. It‘s always crazy how you can love a book and someone else feels the complete opposite! 3mo
janeycanuck The Final Revival of Opal & Nev came immediately to mind for me, too. I haven‘t read it but I‘ve heard it‘s very similar to Daisy Jones. Take a peak at Rachel Joyce‘s The Music Shop. The ending was a bit of a letdown for me but otherwise was good. 3mo

This is my second time listening to this audiobook and I absolutely loved it, just as much as the first time ❤ I love when audiobooks have different narrators for each character 😍 Daisy Jones and The Six are the new, hottest, soft rock band in the mid-late 70s. Themes of the novel; drugs, sex and rock and roll. 🎵 Great novel!

18-21 Jan 2002 (audiobook)
Lots of hype surrounding this audiobook and I enjoyed it as something light and fluffy. Daisy Jones is a rich, neglected teen who becomes an It-girl on the Sunset Strip in the early 70s and joins The Six. Told via interviews with various band members and entourage, this is the story of the chaos, sex and drugs surrounding a touring rock band.
Perhaps with the exception of Camilla, none of the characters were likeable.

Am I the only one who didn‘t love this? Daisy‘s so unlikable, it was hard to even finish the audiobook. I kept thinking, ‘get on with the story, already.‘ Rockstars did a lot of drugs in the ‘70s. Bandmates don‘t always get along. Neither theme felt interesting or original. I loved “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” and “Malibu Rising.” This just felt like a letdown to me.

Aahhhh that any of us survived the angst of rock n roll…. The bands. The heartache. And the music. Always, the music. I finished this book at midnight. I loved the book. For me to be engaged with a book at midnight, is a tell all for me. I loved Daisy and Billy and every character they came across. They had so many commonalities but the best for me, was the person who to the very end, believed in them both.

This is a fictional book about a band in the 1970s. The writing is so great and the details so rich, I thought this was about a real band at first-lol. This book is written in interview style, which I will admit took me a bit to adjust to and really get in to. That being said - this book is amazing. You find yourself really loving all the characters , despite their flaws. Great read!

Daisy Jones is a hot ass mess. I hate you Billy. Camilla was too good for everyone. I love Karen. A lot. Justice for Graham. This book develops very quickly and all of the characters feel very vivid and alive and unique. I wish this band existed so I could listen to their songs. I loved the format of the book and all the different perspectives from the band members. Taylor is queen of an ending plot twist to make it all tie beautifully together.
