A quick read that I thought was going to be more of a psychological thriller with an unreliable narrator, but which turned out to be more of a small mystery combined with the main character trying to figure out how to deal with the crisis of her husband's affair, etc. I liked the alternating timelines of Before and After, I liked the main character, and I liked way it all wrapped up. But overall it turned out to be only an "okay" read.
This book had promise. It promised to be psychological suspense. It failed. There was never any mystery except when the suspense would begin. What it ended up being was a woman's midlife crises, journey of self discovery, and romance. I don't do romance, so to be fair, because I had no issues with the writing itself, a so-so instead of a pan. If this is you're type of book, you'll probably like it. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterE
Alternating timelines makes this feel like reading two completely different stories at the same time. One is thriller-ish and the other is suburban "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and neither really works well. When they eventually merge into the present, I didn't particularly care and the resolution was pretty pat. ⭐️⭐️ solid meh.
Well. That's a description I could have done without.
I've got an electric blanket, fuzzy slippers, leftover Christmas candy and a stocked kindle. I'm ready for this winter storm!
#2017Book2
Evelyn knows her husband is cheating on her, but she also believes that's not his only secret. But in her quest for answers and revenge, she might go too far. In alternating Before and After chapters, we see Evelyn's life fall apart and her attempts to become whole again. This novel portrays the difficulties of maintaining a marriage when trust is gone, as well as delving into the psychological turmoil of betrayal and guilt.
this was a freebie either prime or samsung. it's ok. I like the before and after style of story telling captured here, and parts are very relatable.
I had a hard time getting into this book the first few chapters, but once I did, I was hooked. Lots of unexpected twists, and you really start to feel for Evelyn, wanting answers just as much as she does!
From the first page I could not put it down! I liked that the author alternated the Before and After chapters. There were definitely some twists and turns that I did not expect. It was really interesting to watch Evelyn go from a woman scorned, obsessed with her husbands lover to a self confident, self possessed woman. Definitely check this book out!
Decided to go with Evelyn, After for my October Kindle First pick. Which one did you pick? #amazon #kindle #kindlefirst
#kindlefirst. Help, what did you pick? I always have a hard time with these. Venom and Vanilla is probably not my cup of tea, and if It Is Well is Christian fiction, it's not either. The other four seem like possible contenders.
Sorry, the cut off title is Before You Leap by Houghton.
Ooooh. This book is going to break me.
