There are very few books that I feel have haunted me the way this one did. The journey with Cass took me on a rollercoaster of emotion and the ideas put forward in this book had me really thinking when I was done. I had such a hard time putting it down, I just needed to know what happened next!

This book is not exactly set on an island but the whole book is about one. I enjoyed reading it so much!
Also threw in Treasure Island for good measure. 📚

WOW!! For those of you who like the Divergent series or The Hunger Games this should be your next read.It was a nearly flawless book. It did get a little slow going for about 10 pages of travel and the 'love' interest fell a little flat. The ending however made up for that, I totally did not see it coming. I was left with my jaw hanging open. Can't wait to read the second one!!!

For this challenge I am choosing Kip from Fire Sermon. He cannot remember his life from before Cass saved him, yet he chooses to stay with her on her quest and protect her. He is super sweet, and a great support to Cass. 💕

My other reason is under a spoiler tag below!

Bookworm54 My other reason and MAIN reason, is that following the discovery of who his twin is, Kip chooses to take his own life in order to kill his twin and therefore save Cass, and the other members of their group. 😭💔 8y

I really enjoyed this book. The concept of alpha and omega twins and the way their survival was bound together was very thought provoking. It raised some interesting ethical questions. It may possibly be simply because I was recovering from surgery but I didn't predict the end plot - always a positive thing. I didn't find it compelling-can't-put-it -down reading but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Most of my September reads have been re-reads as I work my way through the Psy-Changeling series (I need a refresher before I start on the ones I haven't read!). So although I love them all they aren't my best read of September!

I LOVED Fire Sermon. It was an amazing start to a trilogy, with an interesting premise and lots of feels! I can't wait to get my hands on the second one 😍

stargazerblue49 That cover is awesome!! 😍😍😍 8y
Soubhiville I recently got a used copy of this! Looking forward to reading it 📚 8y

Another dystopian with a unique twist. Every birth since the nuclear Armageddon that sent society back to pre industrialized revolution tech results in twins. One perfect and healthy. The other disabled in some way. The twins are separated at birth for fear that their punishment will hinder the healthy twin. But one thing connects the twins forever. When one dies so does the other.

I finished this book last night & loved it. It does a great job with diverse representation, particularly with respect to disability. It's a post-apocalyptic YA set after a nuclear disaster. Twin births are the norm, with one, the Alpha, being fully able-bodied and the Omega displaying a mutation or disability. The book explores oppression and sibling rivalry.

Ysabet Oh, yay! Pretty sure I own a copy of that on my TBR bookcase! 8y
earlgreyediting @Ysabet Well worth reading. I think it will be a contender for my favourite reads of the year. 8y

Why do I do this to myself?
I have all the feels right now 😖

Amazing book though, and such an interesting premise!

Since the blast, only twins are born. One male and one female. One perfect and one imperfect.
The imperfect are branded and sent away, allowed to settle on land deemed unworthy for alphas to claim. Only the moment of death is shared between twins. No matter what separates them, when one twin dies, so does the other. ❤️

I am so invested in this book right now!
I have roughly 100 pages left but alas I must sleep. 😔

Ordinarily I would be tempted to just stay up and finish it, but as it is only book 1 I think I would still go to bed feeling unsatisfied and wanting to know what happens next!

I also get the impression that a love triangle may be looming, and I have a love/hate relationship with them. I like things the way they are dammit! 😖

I work in a bookstore, so this book has been on my radar for about a year now before I finally picked it up. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to reading the sequel! The societal construct between the Alphas and Omegas reminded me a lot of "The Chrysalids" by John Wyndham - perhaps not such a coincidence, as there is a place named Wyndham in the book!

writersbone Also the cover design/artwork is A+ 8y

I first saw this with the forest cover and instantly needed it. The U.K. Cover is completely different 😟. Still, you don't actually see them so... This book was gripping from start to finish. I had quibbles with the twin strategy but still felt it was a worthy read.
