“When she came out the other side, everything was right where she‘d left it. And she didn‘t say a word.”
This is a very fun and appropriate book for children of all ages. It almost feels as though you are going on a journey with the main character.
Leave Me Alone by Vera Brosgol, 2016. Caldecott Honor Book. This is a story about an elder woman who values time to herself and her hobbies. The woman is trying to find a space where she can be left alone and knit. This book teaches that although people want their space and time for themselves, nothing can replace the love and bonding of a family.
Fun illustrations, but otherwise this didn‘t quite live up to my expectations. The writing was a little sparse, and the grandmother‘s voice lacked personality. #WinterGames2021 TeamGameSleighers @StayCurious Word Search 3 + 56 pts
This Caldecott Honor book has wonderful illustrations that bring the text alive with fun pictures that extend the humor. It has humor that young children will love and a warm theme that it is good for them to hear.
I would use this in my future classroom because it appeals to children's humor and love to laugh.
“Winter was coming and that meant she had some very important knitting to do. But it wasn't getting done.“

I am one of six siblings and my grandma lives with me and my niece comes over often and my cousin and her two kids come over often and I have three dogs and a cat so I FEEL YOU GRANDMA. In a packed house, besides when everyone is asleep, you can really lose your mind sometimes.
Leave Me Alone by Vera Brosgol was one of the 2017 Caldecott honor books. This cute story about a grandma who just needs some peace and quiet to finish her knitting and meets some eccentric creatures along the way is a fun book to read in any classroom. The illustrations are great and captivating and go along perfectly with the story.
Anyone ever had this problem? 😩😂 I just wanted to pick up my book and read while it was cooling down and just the right temperature! I did work in the conversation that I think it‘s rude to start a conversation if I was reading! 😬😂💁🏻♀️
I loved this book. The illustrations with the grandmothers facial expressions are hilarious! I think young kids would really enjoy this book being read aloud to them. Its humorous and cute.
Cute and funny book! The illustrations are fun and the book is relatable for young children with their grandma!
Leave Me Alone was written by Vera Brosgol and published in 2016. It is a children‘s award- winning book! An old woman who wants to sit and knit gets distracted by the crazy grandchildren in her life! She tries to leave but no matter where she goes, something is always bothering her. After adventuring and making her sweaters, she decides to go home and be with her family!
Leave Me Alone by Vera Brosgol was written in 2016. It is a very fun adventurous book for any age! With a great story line and great illustration, this book was by far my favorite!
I think my students would really like this book. There is a good lesson in it. You don‘t always want to be alone because then you may get sad. It‘s okay to be alone to get your work done but it‘s nice to always come back to people.
Leave Me Alone by Ver Brosgol, 2016. Caldecott Award. I loved this book! I thought it was really funny. I liked how it was repetitive and no matter where she went she could be left alone. The women‘s facial expressions are funny and help show her emotion better. I really enjoyed how the pictures took up the whole page. The words are not to hard so I think all ages could enjoy this book. The pictures also do a really good job of telling the story.
I would definitely read this book to my class! Overall, I enjoyed this book and it‘s illustrations! It provides a good sense of what missing your family is like and I believe my students would love it!
“Leave Me Alone!” was written by Vera Brosgol in 2016. It has also received a Caldecott award. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. It is about a grandmother who is overwhelmed by her large family and just wants to knit. She decides to leave and find quiet places, but once she does, she misses her family and decides to come home and give her large family the sweaters she knitted for them!
I enjoyed the ending of the book when the grandma leaves the wormhole and returns home to her large family.
This book I found to be a little too simplistic for me. The storyline really didn‘t interest me too much. I did enjoy the common theme that being around those you care about is the thing we all want. I thought the book had a great message, I just was not that big of a fan of the storyline.
This Caldecott Honor book is a great TL book that could be used for any S or RA. It‘s about the story of an old woman who traveled far and wide to leave her family and find peace and quiet. When she finds that peace and quiet she realizes it isn‘t what it‘s cracked up to be. #UCFLAE3414SU19
Hilarious. This has the feel of an old-fashioned folktale, with a twist. There is repetition and a circular nature to the story. Even the art, worthy of its Caldecott honor, has a vintage Eastern European feel to it. But it is definitely updated enough for modern audiences, and the message that everyone needs a little space sometimes is a good one.
I like the end because after she had made everything she was happy to be with her grandchildren.
Caldecott and was written in 2011. This book is about an old woman who wanted to knit, clean, and drinking her tea. Her grandchildren wouldn't leave her alone so she left and went place to place until she went through the wormhole, where it was quiet and she could finish her knitting. After she was done she went back to the house and now she happy. The theme of this book is that people need space and time alone from others to get their work done.
This was all i got at tonights BN trip! I hate that i get followed around and bothered by the booksellers. When i get annoyed it literally pours off of me. “can i help you find something” “no just looking” “well what is the last book you read maybe i can point you in the right direction” “im reading Black Leopard, Red Wolf” “Huh im not familiar with that one, follow me to desk and ill look it up” 😑 Sir, how do you work and not know your books?
I think this book would help kids understand that sometimes people just want to be alone, but that doesn‘t mean they don‘t need a friend at times! Being alone is nice to get work done and stay motivated, but friends and family are important and you realize that you miss them when they‘re gone. I also think this is an easy read for a group setting.
I really liked the word usage in this book, and how it matched the illustrations. I especially liked the hidden metaphor when they said “the old woman was at the end of her rope” both literally and figuratively speaking. I also enjoyed that when the grandma entered the dark void, the pages turned black. This book is a special one that I can see kids enjoying.
Leave Me Alone❗️
This F Caldecott Honor book would be great for a RA. It‘s about a grandmother with many grandkids who just wants to be left alone so that she can knit sweaters for her grandkids. She travels far to get her peace and quite time so that she can finish knitting the sweaters. This book can be used to benefit students by having them learn story structure.

“Soon she had no more yarn and thirty little sweaters. And she was alone.”
I really enjoyed the overall story of this book & think it‘d be great for kids since it‘s easy to follow. The illustrations are also very captivating and go right along with the story.
Published by Roaring Brook Press in 2016. I really enjoyed the repetition of “leave me alone” and think it‘d really hold children‘s attention. It has an interesting story line & ever changing setting. I think kids could relate to the grandma, since everyone wishes to be alone sometimes; but be careful what you wish for. This could be used for social development maybe.
“when she came out the other side, everything was right where she‘d left it. And she didn‘t say a word.”
I really like that the grandma keeps yelling “leave me alone” and this is in a word bubble
