DrSpalding This does make an excellent read aloud. Believe it or not the first time I was exposed to this book was by a middle school social studies teacher that used it to teach about labor forces, strikes, compromise… In a social studies class. Excellent choice. 5y

This book is about a bunny named Jasper who LOVES carrots until one day he notices the carrots following him. This book makes for an amazing read aloud, especially around Halloween!

This HF novel, One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia, makes for an amazing LC novel allowing for great discussions. It has won numerous awards, including the Scott O'Dell Award. It is about three sisters who travel to Oakland to spend their summer with their mother who had left them. They realize their mom is nothing they imagined her to be and their summer is not going to be spent at Disney but with the Black Panthers.

This modern fantasy (F) picture book is about two ants who decide to break away from the colony for a day and find themselves getting into trouble. In the end the ants learn their lesson about misbehaving and return back to the colony. This book would make for RA for teaching a lesson about following directions or point of view!
