Word Workout
Word Workout: Building a Muscular Vocabulary in 10 Easy Steps | Charles Harrington Elster
7 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
""People judge you by the words you use." This has never been more true than in our text-driven world of quick communications and often sloppy language use. Word Workout is a practical book for building vocabulary--a graduated program featuring thousands of words that begins with words known by most college graduates and ascends to words known only by the most educated, intelligent, and well-read adults. The workout will be a comprehensive program, chock-full of information about synonyms, antonyms, and word origins, and replete with advice on proper usage and pronunciation. There will be creative review quizzes at each step of the way and longer review tests after each level to reinforce learning. Unlike other vocabulary books, Word Workout provides a complete learning experience, with clear explanations of meanings, word histories, usages, pronunciation, and more. Far more than a cram session for a standardized test, the book is designed as a lifetime vocabulary builder, teaching a vocabulary shared by only the top percentage of Americans, with a proven method that helps the knowledge last. From "awoval" to "proselytize," from "demagogue" to "mendicant," Charles Elster has carefully picked the words you need to know, and given you an easy, fast, and fail-safe way to learn and remember them"--

Random Question:
For those that workout/exercise how easy is it for you to stay focused on your workout and listen to a book?
I only recently started working out and have to really focus on the workout to keep my stamina/speed consistent. Not sure if trying to listen to a book would disrupt me.
Dog for attention lol yes he regularly sleeps like that.

Tamra Yay, that is fabulous. I bet you are already feeling good! After you have your routine down you probably won‘t have to focus so much on your movement/exercise. I walk 6 miles over 90 min every day on a treadmill running through all the incline levels. Since it is basically automated, my mind is free so I watch YouTube or listen to books. 1y
Soubhiville I use a rowing machine while audiobooking. While walking outdoors or doing yoga I prefer not to listen, but for light stretches I‘ll sometimes put one in. It just depends what I‘m doing. 1y
Laughterhp I actually need to listen to books to workout, otherwise I‘m unmotivated and super bored. 😆. But it‘s usually when I‘m walking or running (outside or on a treadmill). If I‘m biking indoors, I usually read my kindle. I‘m also not super hardcore when working out, it‘s just to be moving. 1y

I've been really thinking about my goal for this challenge and I've decided to add or at least attempt meditation.
Goals: Meditate 3xs a week
Exercise with weights and/or stationary bike or fitness app 5xs a week for 20 to 30 minutes a day.
Listen to or read 5 books.
Also cut down on sugar consumption.

I just signed up for @wanderinglynn #bookfitnesschallenge
I admit I really need to get in shape and this should be a good motivator. I hoping to lose about ten pounds but mainly cut back on my sugar intake. I think I can through about 5 audiobooks. I just need to find some shorter ones, most of mine are 20 hours plus.
Any recommendations for audiobooks that are only 10 hours or less would be appreciated 😺

wanderinglynn Yay! Welcome aboard! 😀 (edited) 6y
Clwojick Do you have goodreads? If so I‘m on there (same username) and I have board/list/whatever for audiobooks 7hours and under. 🙌🏻 6y
BookwormAHN @Clwojick I do and I will check it out, thanks 6y
