My title for the WW2 September read is THE THIRD MAN by Graham Greene. 🤩
Please look at our spreadsheet to ensure that your book is posted there under “WWII“. If not, comment below with the title you are reading, and I'll be sure to add it. 🤗

This review is specifically about The Fallen Idol. The story is quite short. About half-way through, I almost quit because it was a dark and dreary tale. At some point though, my appreciation of the story changed. It's ultimately about lost innocence and whereas at first I didn't like the child protagonist, I finally realized that the kid is 7 YEARS OLD and I started to rethink who the actual victim of the story is. In the end, I'm glad I read it.
I was surprised at how Graham Greene was able to write such a tight, efficient, complex tale using a first-person narration from someone who is only peripheral to the story. It only takes place over a few days too. I was impressed by how he drew the characters and their relationships mainly through actions and dialogue rather than flashbacks and long extrapolation. A thriller with a world-weary tone and a poignant ending. Short too!!

Today's prompt is about the old movies we love! I could list so many, but the ones above hold a little something special for me. Grateful for:
-The friends and family who have watched, re-watched, and endlessly quoted movies with me
-The arts for bringing joy and catharsis
-Christopher Plummer, my celebrity boyfriend, Time Travel Edition
This is my current stat at the #BookSpinBingo of September. There's a Bingo in sight 😁 Also, I'm currently “working“ on my #BookSpin book and plan to finish it by next week.

It's an ok book, not really thrilling, but entertaining. I learned that Vienna was also divided in different sectors after WWII ended. This actually was the most interesting part of this book for me.
Boon Nr 5 off my #BookSpinBingo board and also my #DoubleSpin book

Instead of my usual podcasts I listened to this while making notebooks. I can see why it‘s a classic.
#criterion #adaptation
Bit of a cheat here, as the novella was written in preparation for the screenplay. More just a further excuse to brag about finding this out of print title in such good condition for so cheap. Admittedly, I still haven't gotten around to playing the disc, so the data could be corrupted as all heck.

Meh. I read this cause it was one of the #1001books and it was short but I knew I wouldn‘t like it really. Im not a fan of this sort of American crime from this era and I didn‘t totally follow all of it, the characters all seemed the same for me.
That‘s two books done for #24in48!
#MayLovesClassics #Soundtracks
The Harry Lime theme is a classic soundtrack and whilst the book is based on Greene's screenplay i think it is a classic and when i did an interrail i insisted on making my friends wait while i went on the ferris wheel- i've also stretched my phone skills to include Psycho because those Bernard Hermann violins has to be the most scary soundtrack ever.
🎬 The Princess Bride
🎬 The Third Man
🎬 Clueless
🎬 either, depending on my mood
#manicmonday & what fun questions!
Coffee with old friends. The pages are brittle, the story still fresh.
