I Want to Go Home
I Want to Go Home | Gordon Korman
8 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
Gordon Korman's uproarious, outrageous, and all-too-familiar summer camp adventure is BACK! Rudy Miller really isn't into the whole camping thing. So when his parents send him to Camp Algonkian "for his own good" all he wants to do is go home. Rudy teams up with his cabin-mate Mike for a series of carefully planned -- yet hilariously bungled -- escape attempts. Unfortunately, their counsellor (and nemesis) Chip is as determined to keep them there as they are to get away. Rudy and Mike spend their days plotting, playing chess, and working off punishments for their failed escapes. Hmmm, maybe it isn't such a bad way to spend the summer after all . . .

#7days7books Day 1
Seven books that made a deep impression.

My all-time favourite book as a kid. It may have formed my sense of humour. It definitely affirmed my dislike of camp. 😅

Thanks for the tag @Billypar Do you want to play @readordierachel ?

Ruthiella I don‘t think I‘ve read it but just the cover is enticing to my inner 10 year old! 😀 4y
batsy What @Ruthiella said! We didn't even have summer camps over here but I've always been obsessed with the concept thanks to all the American books and movies 😆 4y
merelybookish @ruthiella @batsy I 💯 identified with the too-cool-for-camp kid leaning against the tree. 4y

I Want to Go Home | Gordon Korman

Genre: Adventure fiction
Date Started: Oct. 15th
Date Completed: Oct. 18th
How did you choose this book: This was a book that I started reading a long time ago, and when I finished my other book, I went back to this one.
Brief summary of the novel: Rudy Miller meets his new friend Mike Webster at camp. Except Rudy hates it here, so they make all these crazy attempts to get back to the mainland and go home, were they successful, maybe.

I fell in love with this book in the 5th grade. Recently read it to my 7 year old son! I loved reliving all the funny antics of the best/worst summer camp ever! Lots of laughs!

merelybookish @Ddzmini Sure was! Meaner than a junkyard dog! 😜 But I played it for my kids recently and then wondered if the song wasnt racist. 😑 6y
JenlovesJT47 💚💚💚 6y
Ddzmini Yea their was some mention of it being racist in the 70-80 when they said if you play this record backwards you can hear the ***** talking 😬😳🧐 6y
merelybookish @Ddzmini Yikes! All of that went over my head around five. 😛 6y
Ddzmini Don‘t worry it was more rock and hard rock bands they where after but they had to throw in some other songs just to make it look legitimate 😳🙄 6y

Hard to remember what I read first, but Anne is the oldest children‘s book I own by original publication date, and I have fond memories of my (probably/definitely stolen from my older sisters) Gordon Kormans, especially reading this one aloud to my friends both on the drive to and from Summer camp. #24in48 @24in48

Pickpick

I have been reading this book annually, ever since I first found it when I was 12 years old. While I can breeze through it in a matter of hours now, it still makes me laugh and take me back to those summer camp days!
