pan1.5⭐️ I read this for the IRL NYRB Bookclub in Singapore. The historical background (partition of India) was what enticed me to pick this, but oh boy, it was a chore to finish this book. I have so many problems with it: 1. Random character drops and not developed properly 2. Mixing first person and third person POV 3. Bad translation that makes the narration wonky 😫 I‘m just glad that it was over

Two Asia books, one great Adichie and a mediocre thriller: my week in a nutshell. I‘m having a bit of an Easter break now and have been hoping for time to read but so far I‘ve been surrounded by people. We‘re at sea and having a great time, but my books keep eyeing me!
so-soThis is a very difficult book about the early days of #Pakistan as an independent country. The story switches in time, narrator style, POV, and between dream and reality. It was hard for me to keep track but what I will remember is how cruel reality was for Pakistani in those days.
