Lost Order
Lost Order | Steve Berry
The Knights of the Golden Circle was the largest and most dangerous clandestine organization in American history. It amassed billions in stolen gold and silver, all buried in hidden caches across the United States. Since 1865 treasure hunters have searched, but little of that immense wealth has ever been found. Now, one hundred and sixty years later, two factions of what remains of the Knights of the Golden Circle want that lost treasure one to spend it for their own ends, the other to preserve it. Thrust into this battle is former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone, whose connection to the knights is far deeper than he ever imagined. At the center is the Smithsonian Institution linked to the knights, its treasure, and Malone himself through an ancestor, a Confederate spy named Angus Cotton Adams, whose story holds the key to everything. Complicating matters are the political ambitions of a reckless Speaker of the House and the bitter widow of a United States Senator, who together are planning radical changes to the country. And while Malone and Cassiopeia Vitt face the past, ex-president Danny Daniels and Stephanie Nelle confront a new and unexpected challenge, a threat that may cost one of them their life. From the backrooms of the Smithsonian to the deepest woods in rural Arkansas, and finally up into the rugged mountains of northern New Mexico, The Lost Order is a perilous adventure into our country s dark past, and a potentially even darker future."

I have a dilemma I‘m setting up a new reading journal for 2023 and can‘t decide which one to go with - the first one has stars on the corners of each page which is nice but does reduce space to write and the middle one is quite a bit larger and also pretty - I very much like them all - any opinions/votes which one I should choose. Thanks. 😊

Prairiegirl_reading My vote is the middle one. Pretty + more space. 2y
Agentfalco @Priariegirl_reading Thanks for your vote 👍 so that‘s what I went with 😊 2y

Another installment in the Cotton Malone series and it‘s just as action packed as the rest. This involves the Smithsonian Institute, a Civil War era secret society, a Supreme Court Justice, former President, Senate & Congress. Lots of US history conspiracy tied in for fictional fun. Fast-paced for readers who want light but good. 📚📚📚📚

Smithsonian, rural Arkansas, and New Mexico. I loved learning about The Knights of the Golden Circle and it's connection to the Smithsonian Institution. Met Cotton's namesake uncle, Angus 'Cotton' Adams, a confederate spy, and his connection to knights and the lost treasure from 160 years ago during the Civil War. Speaker of the House wants to change country. Malone, Cassiopeia, Danny Daniels & Stephanie Nelle lives threatened. recommended

Andrew65 A bit long winded at times but I did really enjoy this book and story. Great review. 😊 5y

Crazeedi @Andrew65 I just looked and I read 4, and I have kindred on my shelf! Is" penmakers wife" part of this series or a standalone? I've been seeing it and have it on my tbr 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi We look as we have read the same ones then up to Kindred. It looks like The Penmaker‘s Wife is a standalone set in the 1880s. (edited) 5y
Crazeedi Yes! I have so many tbr staring at me🙄 Merry Christmas my reading buddy! Thank you for all the great recommendations you've shared, my reading has gotten richer from knowing you! 5y

Cotton Malone and a rainy day. ❤️ This book is one of the better Cotton Malone books I‘ve read in awhile- I quite like the treasure hunting and politicians up to no good elements.

I never use Libby because I don‘t read a whole lot of backlist, and the books I want to read have long holds. I have had some good luck lately though. Steve Berry can be hit or miss, but I‘m hoping this is worth it!

Finished The Lost Order & loved it!Cotton Malone has been hired by the head of the Smithsonian to find a treasure.Meanwhile former president Danny Daniels has stumbled onto a problem of his own. With a secret society, sentinels & clues hidden in plain sight the outcome of this treasure hunt could change the government & the U.S. forever. From the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., to Arkansas, & New Mexico the race is on to see who will find it first!
