Whiskey Words & a Shovel III
Whiskey Words & a Shovel III | r.h. Sin
20 posts | 18 read | 16 to read
r.h. Sins final volume in the Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel series expands on the passion and vigor of his first two installments. His stanzas inspire strength through the raw, emotional energy and the vulnerability of his poems. Relationships, love, pain, and fortitude are powerfully rendered in his poetry, and his message of perseverance in the face of emotional turmoil cuts to the heart of modern-day life. At roughly 300 pages, this culminating volume will be his lengthiest yet.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5/5)

It took me awhile to finish this series, and unfortunately I wasn‘t a massive fan of the final book. Even though there was some excellent poetry and stand-out poems, there was a surprising number that were not impressive and I couldn‘t personally connect with certain themes.

Worked my way through all of WW&aS finally. This was my least favorite, only because I‘m over the most painful breakup that ever happened to me. I read this book thinking about all the drama and the lack of forgiveness in his words. But when I was hurting most, I ate that up; the breakup talk, the moving on talk, and the don‘t-give-him-a-second-thought stuff. That was just what I needed. Poetry is all timing. Healed hearts don‘t dwell on hurt.

I‘ve never read the first two but this one was staring at me from the bookshelf at Barnes. I flipped to some random pages and the words really spoke to me. So here we are.

#TBRtemptation post 5! Recently released. A solid 4.1 GR rating. This is the final installment in a poetry trilogy, and a thick one at 300 pages. His verse conveys grittiness, raw emotion, and vulnerability. His message is one of perseverance in the face of emotional turmoil. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

R..H Sin is one of the best modern day poets. He speaks about love, heartache, healing and coping. Relationships are viewed today by both the man and women's perspective. Beautifully written. .

This collection is blowing my mind. I had never heard of it before, but WOW. It's giving me the feels, just like "Milk and Honey" did.

still reading this one - I find I either fly through a poetry collection reading it all at once, or take weeks reading a few poems here and there. so far I'm enjoying it but not many are really jumping out at me. love the new spring cups though, spring feels so far way in atlantic canada, so I really appreciate the bright colors & the remainder that spring will be here soon 📖🌷☕

I requested this book of verse from NetGalley because 1. Cover art is awesome 2. My daughter is a fan
This is very raw and personal but I'm probably the wrong age/ generation to fully appreciate the writer's angst and revelations. Really a meh, for me but I'm sure the right audience will LOVE this collection ❤️

saresmoore Hmm, hipster poetry? 8y
Reviewsbylola That's sweet of you to read something your daughter is interested in! 8y
Cinfhen Yup, not my thing @saresmoore but I tried @Reviewsbylola , It's probably time I accept I'm no longer in my 20's (or 30's) 8y

saresmoore @Cinfhen I would like to reference my great aunt Maddy (Madeleine L'Engle—no actual relation), who said that she was all the ages at once and that's what enabled her to write from so many different perspectives. In other words, I don't think it's your age, but your wisdom that precludes your enjoyment of things like this. I appreciate your perspective very much! 8y
Cinfhen Thanks so much @saresmoore 😘I REALLY appreciate your kind words & your aunt sounds amazing. Can't believe the name... 8y
saresmoore @Cinfhen I suppose I worded that wrong. 🙃 I refer to Madeleine L'Engle affectionately as my great aunt because her writing has shaped so much of my life! 8y
Cinfhen @saresmoore 😜I was thinking how much of a coincidence can that be! 😂 8y

this week has been pretty hectic, but taking some time to drink a fancy coffee & reading some poetry always helps 📚
