My second recipe this week out of this cookbook that I have had since it came out, but hadn't cooked from.😬(The first was the Sweet-Spiced Roasted Nuts recipe that I posted a few days ago.) This is the vegan Persian Lentil Stew (Adassi) & it's very good. I did make a few small changes including adding coconut milk because curry, lentils & coconut milk is what I craved today.😋🍲A late lunch & my blog post for #soupersundays. Link to recipe 👇🏻

#aprilinbooks18 The prompt for the day is "the 9th book on the shelf" - but which shelf? - so I picked the ninth shelf in the lounge room. Sirocco by Sabrina Ghayour is a terrific Middle Eastern-Western fusion cookbook, and highly recommended. #cookbooks

Guy McDonough who wrote and sang this beautiful song. He died 1984, at the age of 28, as a consequence of his drug addiction.

Cinfhen Love knowing all the behind the scene tidbits you and @Lizpixie keep sharing 😍 7y
McFarchie I often leave a flower on his grave ❤️ 7y
Lizpixie Errol is one of my favourite Australian Crawl songs❤️ 7y
CarolynM @Cinfhen @Lizpixie Australian Crawl were my favourite band. I was devastated when Guy died. I can't hear his songs, and especially this one, without thinking of him. 7y
CarolynM @McFarchie That makes me happy. Bless you. 7y

Made two different recipes for orange and date salad yesterday. Forgot to take a photo until after we had already taste-tested the first. Sirocco's would be good as a side with a meal, Plenty More's stands well as a course on its own. Both were delicious, actually. #cookbooks

Lindy @Lcsmcat Hey Linda! This photo is for you. 😊 7y
Lcsmcat They both look delicious!! 7y
Lindy @Lcsmcat Thanks. I don't usually go through much effort with salads, these were worth the prep required (toasting fennel seeds, cutting oranges etc.). 7y

charl08 Love orange salads, even just with grated carrot: this sounds far more sophisticated though. 7y
Lindy @charl08 The Sirocco one is pretty simple. The honey and cinnamon vinaigrette is what makes it special. It would be nice with grated carrots added. (edited) 7y
Maike There are sooooo many good recipes in Sirocco 😍 I love how she gives already well-known recipes an oriental twist. 7y
Lindy @Maike Yes, I agree. 👍 7y

Pickpick

When Ghayour advised readers not to be rigid about following recipes, and later wrote: "I have a thing for feta drizzled with honey," I knew we would get along. While "none are authentically Middle Eastern," the recipes call for za'atar, sumac, harissa, pomegranate molasses & such. There's an intriguing Preserved Lemon Martini as well as Preserved Lemon Jam. I'm going to make her Date & Orange Salad with cinnamon vinaigrette today.

josie281 YUM! 7y
Lcsmcat That sounds so good! 7y
Lindy @josie281 @Lcsmcat My plan is to also make the Date & Orange salad from Plenty More to see which version I like better. 7y

Lcsmcat And post pictures so we can drool over them? 😀 7y
Lindy @Lcsmcat Sure! 7y
tournevis Mouhamara on the cover. My favourite middle eastern dip. Mmmmm. 7y
Lindy @tournevis I love anything with beets in it. 😊 7y

The Powell's cookbook store was pretty fun. I don't know how I did it, but I managed to go in TWO Powells locations and bought nothing for myself but the Leuchtturm I needed & planned to get. I did buy gifts for other people, but no reads for me! I'm trying hard not to add to my already huge TBR. It was tough. 😎

451Degrees #willpower 🙌🏻 I can't do that when I go there. I was lucky enough last time to only leave with four books😳 8y
AWahle I've never made it to the Powell's Cookbook store. Sounds like heaven! 8y
