Pete is having a bad day, but he is given some sunglasses that he feels make his day better. After the glasses break, he realizes he can have a good day without them. He does this by noticing great things in his environment. This book can teach children they are in control of their emotions and the outcome of their day.

This book can be turned into a script for children to read. There are many characters for students to choose from. The lines would be short and simple. A pair of stylish sunglasses would be a good prop.

Agavitt1 I love the pictures you use for your posts, they‘re so creative! This one is adorable. I like your idea of this being a script for students, it‘s always a great way to get students up and moving and engaged, more than sitting around and reading would do. 4y
DrSpalding Wonderful photo included! The series of books about a positive blue cat is very helpful in the primary classroom. Scholastic is a fabulous resource and readers theater is a good choice of strategy. 4y

I love cats, blue, and magic sunglasses! So far, I'm not in love with the combination, however.

This series was recommended by one of my Drama Mama friends, who is a kindergarten teacher. I listened to this one via Overdrive; I'll pick up three others (specifically recommended by Molly) from the library today.

tjwill My kids love all the Pete the Cat books! 6y

Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses written by Kimberly and James Dean and illustrated by James Dean is a fantasy picture book. Pete is having a bad day until he gets to wear magic sunglasses. This book goes on to leave the lesson that you should look out and see the good in everyday. This books would be good in either a read aloud or an author study!

Gabylaurel10 This book also lines up with UDL Principles 9.2 and 9.3 because it teaches students how to have coping skills and develop self reflection. The ESOL strategy 3 of promoting self talk works well as well. Here is some info to create an author study kids can use in a literacy center! http://www.petethecatbooks.com/meet-the-author-illustrator/ #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
DrSpalding I love Pete! Don‘t forget you can get a plush character of him at Kohl‘s department store right now. 6y

Pete the cat, F books, are always so fun to read! This book was about seeing the world in a different way when anyone would wear the "Magic Sunglasses". The magic sunglasses then broke! Pete the cat was not upset and realized it was just an illusion and seen the world the same way without the glasses!

Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses is a modern (animal) fantasy book. It is about Pete the Cat who has a bad day until Grumpy Frog gives him magic sunglasses that make everything better he then shares the sunglasses with all his friends until he breaks them. Then owl tells him to be positive. This book gives many opportunities to use different voices and class participation http://www.petethecatbooks.com/songs/?videoId=558 #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding Almost every picture book comes with the free song! Kids love them! (Adults do too!) 7y
