Hindsight is 20/20 but no one ever knows what‘s going on in another person‘s head. Through interviews, news articles, police reports, & diaries, investigators try to determine what led up to a school shooting & if anything could be done to prevent it. Recommend.

This one recently god added to my class library and it‘s awesome! It can be a bit heavy but it‘s a good read!

I‘m 15 minutes from the school in Florida who currently has 17 staff and students dead due to gun violence. I‘m an atheist so those prayers and thoughts don‘t work for me. Contact your representatives and tell them to stop taking money from the NRA. Book related because school shootings shouldn‘t occur.

GarthRanzz There have been way too many school shootings this year. There should never be one. Ever. 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Makes me grateful to live in Canada, where we have a different mentality on guns. I hope something changes there, this cannot continue 😔 6y
CarolynM I cannot understand how this can be allowed to go on happening in a first world country. My deepest sympathies to you and your community. 6y

Samplergal @GarthRanzz agreed. I worked 40 years in public schools. Families need to know that children can be quite mentally ill. And guns are helping kill the others. 6y
Samplergal @CarolynM thank you. I have a colleague whose children attend there. No news if they are safe. 6y
Samplergal @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego smart! We would love to have that mentality here, but the redneck factor and NRA and $$$$ for politicians keep us from sanity. 6y
Samplergal @CarolynM no first world country any longer, I‘m afraid. 6y
Velvetfur I would love to say that doesn't happen here in the UK because of guns being illegal but....it does happen here. Only not as often as in the US, it seems. I am sorry to hear of yet another one, and I hope your colleague's children are safe and well xxx 6y
KathyWheeler I‘m not an atheist and those thoughts and prayers don‘t work for me either. They are useless if they aren‘t backed up by actions. 6y
umbrellagirl @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Room for one more? I give up. 😞 6y
umbrellagirl @Samplergal I‘m sorry. I don‘t even know what to say any longer. So tired of meaningless thoughts and prayers. 6y
BookishMe Hope your colleague gets news soon... This is too too close. Yes it shouldn't happen anywhere. Devastating to hear this happening again, again... 6y
Samplergal @umbrellagirl me too. Trump has offered thoughts and prayers. Whoop Dee doo! 6y
bentchbites Oh no. I hope your colleague‘s children are safe. It makes me sad and angry to hear there‘s another shooting incident. Idk why they havent changed gun laws yet. This is too big of a problem and too frequent to oversee. ☹️😡 6y
Samplergal @KathyWheeler thanks. Im sick of the hypocrisy. 6y
PirateJenny Thoughts and prayers are meaningless when the laws could do so much to stop these tragedies. I can't imagine how sick and angry you are to be so close to this 6y
GeekGrl82 No right is unlimited. It is long past time for action. I live around the corner from Columbine, and have a friend that was there 19 years ago. How many would be alive if we had acted then? 6y
ReadingSusan Oh no😔 I didn‘t see the numbers. This is devastating and enraging. I agree 100% with you. 6y
Jas16 I am with you 100% on this. 6y
Samplergal @Jas16 thank you. 6y
Samplergal @GeekGrl82 so agree with you. Thank you. 6y
Samplergal @PirateJenny thank you. 6y
Samplergal @BookishMe thank you. No word yet. 6y
Samplergal @bentchbites thank you. No word yet. It‘s still pretty chaotic. 6y
Samplergal @Velvetfur thank you. 6y
GingerAntics I'm Catholic, but I still don't want the "thoughts and prayers." They are empty words and mean nothing. If they really were praying, they would be changing things, but they're not changing anything (because I doubt one actual prayer is ever said by our leaders - at least not about that). I completely agree with all of this, 100%. 6y

Dear #litsylibrarians, please send thoughts and prayers to the Clovis Carver Public library in New Mexico. None of us want to be where they are right now. If you haven't please talk to your directors and boards about active shooter training. My staff hated me but I still see it as important. https://www.google.com/amp/www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-new-mexico...

LibrarianRyan I will tag more librarians as I remember them. 7y
moranadatter That's terrifying; we had a report of an armed person heading towards campus when I was working the reference desk one night in grad school; thankfully, it turned out to be false. @gossamerchild is a librarian. (edited) 7y
BethwithBooks We had active shooter training when I was a University librarian - and while thank God I never had to apply why I learned I thought it was incredibly worthwhile and important. This is the ultimate nightmare 7y

BookishBelle I work at a state agency in MS and we've had active shooter training twice in the last year and a half. We gripe about it but it's (sadly) necessary these days. 7y
LibrarianRyan @BethwithBooks I think every public facility needs it. Ours was bad because our trainer was one of the few officers to never step foot in our building. Not even the day of training. We have an open floor plan unlike the schools. So he had to re do it and my staff had to do it again a month later and then practice sessions another month. 7y
LibrarianJen I posted this as soon as my local news pinged me about it. Clovis is a small town here in NM. It's so heartbreaking. I worked at one of the more busier/dangerous public libraries in the state but we never had an active shooter. We do go through active shooter training though because you just never know when something like this will happen. 7y
LibrarianRyan @moranadatter thanks. Any other time I could list 10-15 librarians and either I can't spell it right or can't remember. 7y
BethwithBooks @LibrarianRyan that's so frustrating about the officer! But I'm glad you followed through- we've talked about having a training at the library i am at now but we haven't yet figured out how to set it up as we are not associated with a university with a dedicated security team. Will definitely have to continue looking into it though - maybe our local police can help us out. 7y
LibrarianRyan @BethwithBooks contact your local police. If they don't do it, call the county sheriff. One of them will. And if one doesn't they have a contact they can share. They have to know who to call because they have to verify training for elementary school teachers. 7y
moranadatter @LibrarianRyan I totally understand. I could only think of one even though I know and follow a lot of librarians on Litsy. 7y
BethwithBooks Thanks @LibrarianRyan that's great information! I shall bring it up at the meeting tomorrow. 7y
MrBook Wow 😱! We've already had that here with some security problems we've had at ours. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 7y
AmyG Omg how horrible. 7y
GypsyKat Oh! So awful!!! 😢 7y
Graciouswarriorprincess Thank you. I did it in Maryland and it was scary! However, I am glad that I did it. Trying to get it done in my new library. Thanks and so sad! 7y
Texreader Oh no!!!! Thanks for sharing. So so sad. 😥 7y
Bookzombie @k.reads I don't know if you have had this training but wanted to tag you in this convo. 7y
CouronneDhiver Wow 😢😢😢 7y
Mariposa_Bookworm So sad that this is happening. My prayers for those affected. 7y
sprainedbrain So sad. 😞 7y
GoldenGirl May be inappropriate....but who's legs are hanging behind that EMS guy? 7y
LibrarianRyan @GoldenGirl the woman is being lifted into the ambulance 7y
GoldenGirl @LibrarianRyan Ah, got it. My brain could not figure out what was happening. 7y
k.reads @Bookzombie Thanks for thinking of me! Yes, I have had the training at every library I've worked at. Scary, but necessary 😕. 7y
MarriedtoMrT Run. Hide. Fight. We've had training but could probably use a refresher. Those three words are what goes through my head when I hear about these incidents. And every time I have to ask someone to leave for behavioral issues or handle a blowup from someone who is clearly not getting the mental health help they need I hope I don't need the training. But you ever know! 7y
gossamerchild We've had active shooter training. Local cops came in and talked to us about it, too. Super scary. 7y
Samplergal So scary. I‘m ready to move to somewhere where guns don‘t outnumber people. 6y
