Mehso-so

I always love a bit of Murder and mayhem!! Agatha Christie never disappoints! This was my first James Oswald novel and I admit I was a bit underwhelmed. It just seemed a bit slow and lacked the atmosphere that‘s so important in the murder genre.
I did like Tony McLean the investigator however. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📚3 stars from me

The seventh in this series which combines police procedural with a supernatural twist, finds the ever likeable inspector McLean juggling his personal life with an investigation into the bizarre murder of a former police officer who became a drug dealer then charity boss. Some interesting new police characters with old favourites and return of a nasty villain has me looking forward to book 8.

Another really good instalment in the The Inspector McLean Series. This detective series is set in Edinburgh and always has a touch of the supernatural in it. On this occasion this came quite late in the book with a return of an ‘evil‘ character from a previous book who almost cost Tony his life on the previous encounter. A strange murder sets the scene, and the key question is how did the body end up in a tree. A great new character introduced.👇

Andrew65 👆Also good to see a previous relationship reestablish itself, but is all as healthy as it seems? Just wish they‘d lay off the corruption / inept leaders story line as undermines what is a great series. Definitely recommended. 5y

When a body is found in a tree in The Meadows, Edinburgh's scenic parkland, the forensics suggest the corpse has fallen from a great height. Detective Inspector Tony McLean wonders whether it was an accident, or a murder designed to send a chilling message? This is another great installment from James Oswald. Some of the old characters but a new character which is an added asset. The supernatural aspect of the book is good and not overdone.

EadieB His plots are always entertaining and it's fun to watch McLean work through things to solve the crime. His relationship with Emma is getting more and more interesting and I am looking forward to the next book. I would recommend this series to those who love police procedurals but best to start with book one. #WrittenInBones #JamesOswald @Andrew65 @Clwojick #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter #theme (edited) 5y

MrT I would like the supernatural element of the series to either be expanded upon or wrapped up. It reminds me of Peter James's Roy Grace and the Sandy plot. Overlong. 5y
EadieB @MrT I think the supernatural was stronger in the earlier books. He may be phasing them out and only referencing it on occasion. 5y
EadieB @MrT Only read the first book in the Roy Grace series but hope to read more soon. 5y
EadieB @MrT sounds like a plan! Hope you have a great holiday! Are you going anywhere special? 5y
