One of my besties has a huge crush on Lev Grossman. We saw him at the Decatur Book Festival one year and she freaked and wouldn't talk to him. We took fly by pictures that made them look closer together than they really were! 😝😂🤑
This could have been so great if not for the ending! It took me a little while to really get into it, and then I was All In, and then... huh. At least it cleared off some space from my bursting shelves!
I have a lot of red books...It wasn't on purpose, though I do like red. #17rainbowbooks #day1 #redspines @jess.how
I don't usually read thriller/mysteries but I loved the Magicians and thought I'd check it out. The plot and characters were not very engaging and I was hoping for a big surprise ending but it was a little dull. Oh well, I read it on a beautiful lake on Labor Day weekend and i can't complain about that.
This is a toughie. I loved Grossman's Magicians trilogy. I think he's a fine writer and that his novels (including this one) are enriched by his intellect. But this is a weird read. It has a Da Vinci Code-like puzzle/mystery/search, a computer game/fantasy story, and a love story. It's very engaging at the beginning, but gets pretty confusing at times, especially in relation to the gaming. It's definitely not for everybody, but I liked it.
OMG! Beauty + Brainpower! You can't read on until you solve the puzzle!!

5⭐️!! I love a good nerd mystery, and this brings it! Read if you enjoy THE HISTORIAN, PEOPLE OF THE BOOK, INTERRED WITH THEIR BONES, Dan Brown's Robert Langdon series, and AJ Hartley.
